Question An experiment, care to join me?

I am in the process of training a mother and taking clones for a perpetual type SOG grow, so far three batches of cuttings have been successfully taken but I have noticed one thing. Every lot I have taken has had one from the bottom of the plant and the rest from main growing tips, I have always read that the further up the plant the faster the rooting/growth but so far it has proved the opposite. The lower cutting has always rooted first and the roots are far denser than the others. I am about to take a big lot ie twelve to fifteen and have decided to do a half/half harvest and see which root fastest under the same conditions to decide once and for all for my peace of mind. Anyone else around about to take cuttings that would like to try this and share the results? Kiwi

Good call, Kiwi. I don't have any mothers I care to cut right now, but anecdotally I've had better luck rooting bottom shoots I've cleaned out from the bottom of plants as they go into flowering than from the tops I get from topping the plants in veg. Maybe you're onto something. Perhaps this should be moved into "Theories??"

I have always taken mine from the tops because that's where I cut mine anyway. Show me some pics of the areas you are going to try and I'll do the same on a couple of mine. I have more than enough growing now but I need to take some from my Northern Lightx Shiva and my Halfie just to backup those strains.

Hi kiwi:

We have some clones going right now from angelica. I believe PFR took them from the bottom. Took 6, 5 rooted. We don't have the room to try more for right now. But if you don't mind, I will just take that recliner right over there, so I can see what happens.

D'oh! If only this was posted a few days ago. I just took about 15 clones and would have loved to do it. But my current experiment is scraped vs unscraped clones. Next time though....I'll still be watching to see the outcome.

this coming weekend (14-15th) I will be doing the deed, will take photos of the donor sites and my methods plus photos of the roots when they come. Of course now they won't root or if they do they'll prove me horribly wrong........ Good to see some interest tho... Kiwi

i'm not sure it makes much difference higher/lower cuttings i've done some higher say the middle of the plant and lower on the plant.. since i take my cuttings as i harvest they are not taken in veg tho.. but they take about the same time to root.. i have read where the thickness of the branch/stem makes a difference in how long they take to root, but i have found little difference in the time it takes. is there a difference in the time floro vs. hps? hmm.. probably not. continue.. dont mean to interupt.. edit but i will say the higher up ones tend to be the better.. er the lower ones can sometimes be stretchier than the donor is all.
