Males can be good for cannabutter. Just look at what bowlobud said about his males use for butter. HOWEVER, if yours are showing preflower signs of being male I do not think they will be worth much. They are not going to have many trichomes or sugary goodness. Most people pull males as soon as they are positive they are males. No on wants seedy bud. You could always switch over to Flowering and then once they are positively identified as males, trash them. I think trying to castrate the males would make me way to scared. Would not wanna get pollen flying about. I would just make some butter and see how it turns out. Let's hope their not males. Otherwise look back a few pages and bowlobud talks about the butter he made with males. best of luck

I use my males to make cannabutter...

It is not as powerful as what you make with "sugar" leaves and certainly not as powerful as what is made with bud but it is a nice present to yourself for all you put into the plant and a nice gift half way through your grow.

It's definitely worth it... give it a try...

Do you have to wait all night for it? I can be a little impatient at times

Can you stick it in the freezer to speed the cooling process? Or will that screw it up?

lilbuddie. I have tried to put it in the freezer. The problem is the excess water tries to freeze and will stick to the bottom of the butter. You can put it in their for a little bit to try and cool if off faster. However, the more water you allow to boil away, the faster it hardens (less substance to cool less time... makes sense) I have had it cool into a disk of butter in 3 hrs or less before. I just say overnight to make sure you got the rock hard disk..

Just cook it 'til there is no water left! 8-10 cups of h2o...boil 'til the h2o is gone. I'm on my 4th batch...the last batch I boiled longer than planned. There was no h2o left. It worked fine.

i put mine in the freezer. it was a medium saucepan with about 4 or so cups of water watched the heck out of it and it was done in probably an hour. it was my first time so it seemed to go well. made everyone sleepy though,that was it.
what about the hermies? is pollen bad for the process of cannabutter?

ok i would have to say this is one of the better reciepes for making butter, I slightly tweaked the methods and came up with a ay i like.

1-male plant -half dry
trimmings & popcorn from 3 females(yeild was 15 grams, horible grow)-dry
and some clippings from pruning my current females- not very dry

I started by boiling the herb and using the same amount of butter. prolly used 6-8 cups of water. then boild for about30 minutes, no i didnt want to wait to boil all the water out, and if i put it in the freezer now , the plant material would float to teh top and harden in the bud.

so i grabbed the cheese cloth strained out the plant stuff and liquid went into a bowl, I could still see butter in the plant matter and cheese cloth, so i steeped the cheese cloth in hot water like a tea bag and strained it again with the hot water. no i was happy i got all the butter.

then let this harden over night in the fridge, vola got my butter, and lost none of it in the plant matter. I got just slightly under a cup(would have been more but i had to use 2 pices of cheese cloth, cause i messed up)

and finish product are these...at 2 20 minutes ago and already have a NICE cannabutter high, think i'll pop one more and be set...
