Make sure you hang on to the knot as you turn the jar. It will absorb a significant amount of the liquid if it gets in the flow and will then drip it all over the place. Dont ask me how i know...

This way is obviously trickier the more you fill up the plate. Be careful when moving this stuff (and you will want to move it somewhere out of the way) The green dragon eats clothes and other hard surfaces as well as it eats human livers

I like to make my nylon concave and pour a bit more everclear in, swish it around and filter that out. Thie pic is just after I poured some new everclear into the jar

turn your jar over and gently tap the bottom till as much or it as possible falls into the nylon. Make sure you use a rubber band or some other form of securing the nylon if the fit isnt tight enough to handle the wet weed spilling from the bottom of the jar. The knotted piece that you slipped over is for emergencys, so you can toos it with a limited amount of the actual weed spilling out.

Pull the sides up and around the pile and squeeze. Hard. Make sure the drippings are still going through the three layers of nylon or youll get excessive plant material in the oil.

Im writing the thread as it happens so in about 12 - 24 hours the everclear will evaporate and you can see the results along with me.

Toss the remains, as far as I know they are useless

Ima bit confused what 'bud' isnt worth smoking and whats worth making hash from ... so far Ive pretty much smoked all the bud .. even the small straggly loose bits down at the bottom of the plant .. but I guess with 2.5 ounces in the drying box and about another 6 ready to harvest in a week perhaps I dont need to be as picky ..

umm after I cut off the buds I pretty much just threw everything else into the butter pot ... (including all and any trim etc Id done over the growing period) ...

so should I try making hash out of the smaller buds and trim ?

what are the advantages of making hash instead of just putting it all into butter or oil?

I prefer trichomes to butter, myself, so I would get as many trichomes off the bud and trim leaf as I can and then make butter or oil with it. Im not really sure if the alcohol method dissolves trichomes, so I try and remove as much as possible

Any bud with visable trichomes should work, tho you may want to break it up a bit more than i did, which was not at all. I just let it get very dry and then freeze it for an hour or two.

Hey Smokin, what a good idea. I've been searching for silkscreen in local
shops without luck.

I combined your pantyhose idea with Delta's and Crabs's mason jar method
from this thread. I used it the other night on the trim leaf
from four plants, using a few pennies to act as agitators.

I shook it in three stages, squeezed the kif, and got one sticky brown ball
(maybe 1cm diameter), and two brittle green/white balls. That, in addition
to the scissors hash from manicuring (which is the brownest and stickiest
of them all) gives me four new things to smoke.

I've only tried the greenest of them, and 1 or 2 hits of that gets me
a happy high. I can't wait to try the other ones.

If I were doing it again, I'd leave out the pennies though. I
think they pulverized the leaf matter too much, giving me the
non-sticky agglomerations. They probably have way fewer trichomes in
them, which would explain the lack of stickiness.

I'd use the agitators with silkscreen though, since it's a better filter
than the hose. I'd use better hose too (used those 99cent drugstore ones).

Thanks for sharing your idea. I've been planning shaker hash for a while
but was stuck looking for silkscreen. This is definitely a workable
alternative.

Glad it works for ya Ciratac Id leave the pennies out as well, but understand itll take a lot longer to get the trichomes off. I believe that simply cutting up dried bud/trim is fine, it doesent even have to be very small . As you shake it, the bud pulverizes itself.

Heres the plate after 48 hours of drying. The more carmel colored it is the better

The little black ball is from the sides of the plate, not the bottom. I think this is the most potent since any plant material would sink as the alcohol dries up. I could be wrong, but its fun to play....

The hash balls are lined up L - R from best to "worst". But its all really good.

About 7 grams of kif balls and 2 or so of "liquid"

Hey smokin, in your final lineup there, the ones on the right,
(the "worst" ones), are they hard and brittle, as opposed to pliable
and sticky for the browner ones on the left?
