So is turpentine okay? I know it leaves a little residue after the evaporation but I've been told this is such a miniscule amount. Nobody on this thread has mentioned turpentine proper anywhere. "Gum Spirits" or Turpentine or Paint Thinner. I've been having a problem locating pure Mineral Spirits.

![]() | Really great thread guys, just got 2 males I was gonna ditch but now I know what to try Ok, if I've read all this correctly, mineral spirit should be Ok, yes? I'm in the UK and it would appear that mineral spirit is another name for what we call "White Spirit" over here - easily available at pretty much any DIY store. I'm getting that from this article: White Spirit It also mentions these as being common synonyms: Lacknafta (Sweden); Lakkibensiini (Finland); Mineral Spirit; Mineral Turpentine; Mineralsk Terpentin (Denmark); Mineralterpentin (Sweden); Petroleum Spirits; Solvent Naphtha; Stoddard Solvent; Terpentin (Denmark); Testbenzin (Germany), Turpentine Substitute (Henriksen, 1977; Hass & Prior, 1986; IARC, 1989a). So, before I go ruining my wee boys, can anyone confirm for me that this stuff is Ok? Cheers!

![]() | I did a quick Google search (www.google.com) for Hexane, and, among many listings, came across a Materal Data Saftey Sheet at ... http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/englishhtml/H2381.htm It gives all the what to do... if ... ... and what to avoid before anything BAD happens. This will tell ya how to handle it, if you're new to this OIL thing, and you're going to use Hexane. Also a PDF on CHRONIC TOXICITY SUMMARY at ... http://www.oehha.ca.gov/air/chronic_rels/pdf/110543.pdf it could be usefull to read up on it's proper usage if you're not sure about it.

![]() | reading these saftey sheets and the PDF info .. plus.. the new thread here at ... http://www.hempcultivation.com/420/s...ad.php?t=65994 I decided to JUST stick to making HASH with cold water extraction. screw it if I just get male plants .. I'll just try again till I get a Female, and then clone her 'till it can't be cloned anymore ... or ... get some seeds that are made to JUST be Females (I've seen a place listed here that sells them ... so I know they do exist) all this chemical extraction scares me ... WOW! ... I'm glad I saw the thread, shown above, before I started this s**t ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | As mentioned before, I bought pharmaceutical grade hexane, and after reading the safety issues, decided to just let it evaporate off. I soaked about 10 grams of material in 300ml of hexane for a couple of weeks. Poured the mixture through a coffee filter onto a plate, turned on a fan and waited. About 4 hours later there was a thick dark layer of oil on the plate, gave it another 4 hours to be sure everything had been evaporated and scraped about 2 grams off the plate. This in no way resembled honey oil, it is thick and almost black. Having no handy container I pressed in about 2 grams of kif, and now have piece of great black hash. Why did the mixture turn so dark? While the oil and subsequent hash is great, once my hexane is gone I plan to stick to tinctures and bubble hash. If I had more of a chemistry background, AND the proper equipment, I would probably try again. At this point in time, the end product just does not justify the cost and risk. Airedog

I believe it's because the extraction method you used also extracted chlorophyl in the process. The fact honey oil is actually honey colored, is because the propane most people use to extract this way, doesn't extract chlorophyl. << Having no handy container I pressed in about 2 grams of kif >> Sounds good! ![]()
