Hey stickeyfinger - nice thread!

Just wondering - this electronic contact cleaner - is this the type of thing I can pick up at Home Depot?

I've been reading up quite a bit on honey oil methods, and I was originally going to use Butane because of your "improved butane extractor" - but now I read you saying "Stop wasting Butane"!! So I take it you prefer the hexane over butane!

P.S. That's a sweet lighter you've rigged up there - I've got the same one. Pretty sweet being able to switch "burners" eh? I see you ripped off the cheezy compass too!

superjj- The hexane is much easier to work with, gives a better yield, and produces and equivilant, if not better product. I have seen some who found "QD Contact cleaner" at Home Depo. It should work great, other than the 1-10% methanol it contains which might extract some chlorophyll, but no comparison to denatured alcohol methods.

Check out this thread http://www.hempcultivation.com/420/s...ad.php?t=62241 for some more details. Notice my last post in there has a link for the product I used. They have suppliers world-wide, just click distributors at the top, type in your town and it will list your local suppliers.

Good luck to all........... and post some results, pictures, questions or comments here to those who have tried the honey.

Thanks stickeyfinger

I found a Motomaster brand contact cleaner at Canadian Tire for $5. It didn't have the ingrediants listed, but in the safety warnings it says "contains hexane, petroleum gases and isopropyl alcohol" and the label says it leaves no residue.

Sound good?

sounds alright. Not sure about the petroleum gases. The iso WILL extract chlorophyll that you dont want. but it is probly 80-90% hexane. Will produce decent oil.

Did you do a distributor search for the mg chemicals at their website? I live in a smaller town and there are three stores that sell it here. Pure hexane (once sprayed out of the can). They are the only product I have seen to be this way.

I would suggest doing a small amount and test it. See how it smokes........ is it smooth? Does all the solevents evaporate easily (It must if its no residue)? How high do you get?

Hey cool there is 1 distributer in my small town! Yeah!
I still have some waiting to do before I make this stuff (plants a dryin'!) but you have a deal on hearing from me regarding my results.

Regarding post #6 - you mentioned something about not being necessary - were you referring to that entire step? Does this mean I can just soak the plant matter in the hexane, drain the oil, and simply let the excess hexane evaporate?

I'm only going to be doing this once, then everything (my growroom including) is being taken down as I am moving once the grow is completed. I won't be growing again for over a year, so I have no interest in storing used hexane (I'd just as soon buy some more when I need it)

Thanks in advance

Read this and?

Is it really that good to use your hard work like that? And you said you could use FAN leafs, can you take cuttings along the grow Just ask'n? Also I am sure there are dangers, so with that said would they be lethel? Maybe I am being a party pooper but before I make an attempt of this I am interested in the real dangers of smokn something like this? Never tryed this b4. I do have a vaporizer on the way paid 35 on eBay for it. thccafe.com this place has them if you don't like eBay, they are 39 here but it is the same place. They have 3 different sizes, a 39, 49, and a 99. Not a lot of cash out lay...

Laterrrrrrr.

SuperJJ85 - For post #6, you got it right, its not necissary. Only for reclaiming the hexane. You may simply evaporate the hexane. A window open with a fan blowing directly across the evaporating hexane so it blows out the window would be best. NO fire, flames or sparks anywhere around!

groflat - sure its good to use your hard work like that! Honey oil is awesome! What else can turn shake, and kacky swagg into high grade oil! Does the same to crystally budz too!
The final product is safe (seein you use hexane......eg mgchemical brand. I cant say for sure about other brands as I have no experience with them)
The biggest health hazards are skin contact and vapor inhalation of the solevents. So go buy some chem gloves and a chem respirator (those doctor mask thinggies dont cut it) if you are concerned or doing large volumes.

I would recomend that everyone read the msds on their product or on the chemicals listed in your product to determine chemical properties and toxicity issues. A google search should give you results.

Right on thanks stickeyfinger

I read somewhere about evaporating butane faster by boiling a pot of water, removing the pot from the stove, and then placing the flask (or whatever) of oil into the hot water to speed up the evaporation. Could we apply this same method to hexane? Or do you think it would be better to let it evaporate at room temp?

I won't be in any hurry - I just want to have some good stuff!

Thanks again

stickeyfinger is starting to flower.stickeyfinger is starting to flower.stickeyfinger is starting to flower.

sure you can heat it. Just do it carefully. Hexane boils at 55C, water at 100C so it can easily be done with hot water.

Also when you get down to the end...... so it looks like there is little or no hexane left, put the stove on minimum, put your evaporating oil pot on it for about 10 seconds and take it off. It should be just barely hot to the touch. Now by stirring the honey with a needle or what have you, all of the solevents can be virtually gauranteed as removed.
