Not sure on the JB Weld with heat. Definately be easier but I would say no to be safe.

ok here we go.......
first off, i have used that mg brand electrosolve contact cleaner for all 3 of my batches.

k, first batch went like this.......
i used only the best of trimmings, and i let the stuff sit and soak over night as suggested. then i strained through a coffee filter, and put it on the stove.
i used the double boil method, a glass bowl in a pot o' hot H2O. kept the stove on low, with a fan about a foot away from the bowl, pointed out the door about 2 feet away.....
out of 2 cans of cleaner, each 340mL, i got about 700mL of solution after straining.
It took about a 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour to evaporate, and i was left with this goop on the bottom of the bowl....and lots around the sides, cause it kept creeping up the side of the bowl....i then put the bowl directly on the stove to make sure all the hexane dissipated(sp?)/evaporated. it bubbled pretty good, so i poured it out into beer caps. i got about 2 1/2 caps full of this light brown/greenigh oil.
After a while, it seemed to kinda get like granules in it.....????....but wutevs
it smoked alright, not too harsh, but darn did it get me ripped

My second batch....
same thing as the first, except i only soaked it for about 6-8 hours, instead of the 12-14 hours i soaked the first. Drained as usual. This time i put the bowl on the window sill with a fan blowing directly on it. It took about 4-5 hours to evaporate by itself, and on the stove it went for the last bit.
I put it directly on the stove again, but this time i let it bubble too much i think. Kinda like directly freebase'n in the bowl i think....
i got the same results this time as well.....2 1/2 caps.......but this time it was darker, and more like denser consistency.....very sticky..... harsher this time around as well too.....but it makes my doobie's soo nice so i dun care...

third time.....
i only used 1 can this time and not as good of trimming, as i was showing a buddy how to do this, and we did the stove evaporation method. I think his material was crappy cause he only got like 3/4 cap outta it, but there was also like 3 guys scrapin the bowl too so who really knows.....
same taste as my second batch if i can remember this one.....hard to tell....

You think that I could use a couple oz's of cleaned commercial bud, the kind with the annoying seeds. If I thought the quality high of the oil would be better than the weed by itself, I might give it a try. Thanx in advance.

Aerobud, in my experience the honey oil is high quality and similar quality no matter what the starting material is. Quantity is what will vary the most when using shake compared so comercial bud..... and it would definately be better than just smokin the bud

oh ya....it cost about $12 CDN for me.....
25 bucks and a bag of shake, and i can get enough (2-3 bottle caps-depending on if soaked over night...or for as long a period of time)to last me like a month almost.....if i dont smoke it every day......of just make little bong bombs (lil' nugg with drop inside)

Has anyone seen LPS CFC Free Electro Contact Cleaner? Check it out here. Can someone take a look at the MSDS and let me know what it means? When I bought it I asked if it was toxic and the guy told me that this was approved to be used around food. Not being a chemist, can someone let me know what they think about it?

i just had a quick look over the MSDS, and it says under ingredients that it has isopropanol in it....making it hash oil, not honey oil.....
it will work, but it wont be as nice as if u use straight hexane...ie.electrosolve contact cleaner....

and dont go by my word that it will be safe, cause i am not a chemist, and have no chemistry background. Just that i have used the electroslove many a times, with great results!

Id agree. The iso is only 5-20% though, and the rest is isomers of hexane so it would make killer hash oil but not honey oil.

OK, now I have used the contact cleaner method twice with the following results.

Batch #1
I used QD contact cleaner from HD. It has the small amount of alcohol in it. Using about 1/2Oz of good WW bud, when mixed in with the contact cleaner turned the fluid a dark green. I let it sit overnight. Filtered it with a coffee filter into a small bowl. I would boil water on my gas stove and then take the pot off the burner. In another room I would take the pot and place the bowl on top with the bowl down in the water. Doing it this way it took about three times to boil water and then take it to the other room. I'm scared to death to try evaping the hexane on my gas stove. Anyway, the result was a dark green to black colored tary substance that actually had the texture of bubble gum or something. See my post about my oil being rubbery. When I sniff the bowl I can still smell a contact cleaner type smell. I am too scared to try and smoke it. It went into the trash.

Batch #2
I took the time to order some of the MG Electrosolve cleaner on line. Using the same method and about the same amount of WW bud the results were much different. When the ground up bud was mixed with the contact cleaner, the liquid never turned green. It was more of a hazy yellowish color. After evaping the hexane off using the same method as batch #1, the result is an oil in the bottom of my bowl that does not harden up but stays like a liquid oil. The color is a like yellow around the edges of the bowl to a dark brown where the oil is pooled up at. The smell is nothing like the contact cleaner. I assume this smell is what pure THC smells like. Dipping a stick in it and let two drops fall on top of a packed bowl on my bong and DAMN!!!!!!! I can't believe it. I've never been so high in my life. The taste was good and the high was very high.

Conclusion: Use the MG elctrosolve cleaner. I felt better about it the whole time I was making it. It just appeared everything was much cleaner. If you have to go out of your way to get it, you will be glad you did.
