Training in the reverse direction

Initial training was bending plants down to the right. Starting with the rightmost plant, I pressed each branch down to the right.

Branches have now hit the right cabinet wall. I decided to reverse course.

Continued training will be bending plants down to the left. Starting now from the leftmost plant, I pressed each branch down to the left.

I originally answered this that I would use a chain for the bottom support. I've changed my mind back and forth on this.

A support bar placed in a chain directly above the plants trunk should keep the plant from tipping in any way to the trained direction even if it bows down. Ok. Yes, I believe that one could use chains throughout.

Hey Scrub,

Thanks for the continuing photos, and the details of the technique. Bending the plants back in the other direction makes good sense.

However, from my readings on both LST and ScrOG I have been under the impression that after a week or so into flowering once stops training the plant and just lets them do their thing. Pretty soon I suspect your plants are going to want to show some bud, and they may have a bit more stretch in them yet. How much longer do you intend to keep training them? Will you be removing all the dowels and just let them grow as they wish, or will you keep the dowels in place for support?

Thanks for answering my questions. Much appreciated.

Peace.

Repositioned One Male and Four Females

Identified three males and four females after the last picture post. I decided to
  • remove all top tier training;
  • remove two of the three males;
  • isolate the biggest male; and
  • resupport the remaining females.

Smokey, the remaining four females looked a little scrawny, so I did not press them down. I just re-arranged them a little bit.

The male on the left will be minimized and coned off to reduce unwanted pollination. But, I do need to capture and use some pollen. So the male will remain.

Thanks for your question, slodown88.

I think that if you make your ScrOG screen with chains and sticks instead of from wire mesh then the advantage is that you can disassemble the screen and reassemble the screen to allow tucking plants under.

Your question takes us back to the real reason for using the chains and sticks instead of a screen. It is to add flexability to the screen.

All this training left or right and this creeping up tiers is just how I employ the screen.

Final Canopy...Minor Adjustmenst Follow

Hoping we have enough vertical space. If not, I think I can 'spring' the plants down a bit.

Spring Down the Plant to Reduce Height

Adjusting plant height by springing down high branches.

Thank you for your comments squirrel_master.

Male removed 5/20. One female branch pollinated. Hopefully, that is all but I'm sure there will be some strays.

Removing male on the left allowed springing down the branches which, in turn, left a hole in the center of the canopy.

Note: Photos taken with HPS lights on.
