A few errant branches were stretching to the sides for light. If redirected upward they could reach the canopy. So I redirected their growth to help fill the hole in the canopy center. I propped them up.

I released the two leftmost training restraints yesterday. This let the left three or four branches spring up about 1 inch. I'll remove training sticks from time-to-time until harvest. I've already removed all but one of the original Support sticks on the first tier. Other support sticks will most likely remain. There will be no more training or redirecting from here to harvest. Next pictures. . . harvest. I'll try to remove each plant intact to get a clear profile view as to how each coped with training. Last edited by scrub : 05-31-2008 at 03:27 PM.

I was looking at your thread and love the idea of using dowels instead of a mesh.Very Informative and easy to follow. ...Its so easy to get even tops... Thank you discingolfer, alley17cat, and sinvader635 for you kind comments. Though you were only joshing, discingolfer, you pointed out one decision I had to make; that is, whether to use 48" pine dowels or 36" hardwood dowels. I felt that the hardwood dowels could better take the strain. Oh, and let me take advantage of this opportunity to provide another picture. This picture was taken with HPS lights on and color adjusted.

The four female Skunk #1 are in their 7th week of flowering. I had expected to harvest at the 8th week but all top buds are completely white. I did a little checking and It turns out that the strain flowers for 7 to 11 weeks. I may have four weeks to go! So, I couldn't help showing another picture or three. But it had to have a training purpose. How about this . . . In the first picture every stick circled in ORANGE. The second picture has a few sticks removed and every new stick in RED. The last picture has a few sticks removed.

At harvest, after nine weeks of flowering, the plants show their shape. We started with seven Skunk #1 from 3 year-old seed. Three males were revealed after one week of flowering. Two males were removed. One male was retained a few weeks for selected pollination. He was then removed. This left four females to flower until harvest. Conclusion: I will use the technique on my next grow.
Thank you everyone for your interest and comments throughout this project. One Non-Training Note: At 8 weeks flowering, I damaged the harvest by accidentily leaving off cabinet fans for four hours during the heat of the day. I had to chop the top two inches off each exposed top bud. This was not due to training but due to my own negligence. Conclusion: Don't turn off the fans!
