a late attempt LST goes wrong...
permalink

(check the recent photos first)

After losing 8 of 16 of my seedling from various reasons as I posted on this forum, I got the other 8 of my plants ALL FEMALES =)

They kept growing etc.

Story goes on like this: (previous photos of the plants taken on the forum post date)
http://www.gardenscure.com/420/scrog...pping-lst.html

and after listening some LST advices I attempted LST for the first time:

- The main branch is to strong that I cant LST from the mid sections of the plant...

So the plant continues to grow horizontally...

What's my next step...

ps: I know I don't contribute much as I am a first timer, but again any help is appreciated!!!

ps2: btw I have much of the same problem with all of my plants...

ps3: I can't afford nor let them grow bigger in a BIGGER container...

Ok more LSTing needed. Have you switched your light cycle? You want the plants to not get much bigger then you must switch to flowering asap. Just keep tieing the branches down, off to the side, or whereever you need them to go. Good Luck,

Though I've read all the FAQ's I'm still stuck in small but important details:

I just have many questions to ask, sorry

(1) after switching to 12/12 should I expect the height to be doubled ?

(2) after switching to 12/12 should I keep the 12/12 light cycle?
Or can I leave the 12/12 ligth cycle after I see the flowering?

(3) Should I remove the counter-tie now? (its there for at least 1 week now)

Hey DM,

1. Yes, you could expect a double in height, really depends on the pheno. Could be more, could be less

2. Yes. The 12/12 is what triggers the flowering. If you revert back to 18/6 it will most likely reveg. IF you want to flower turn it to 12/12 and leave it there.

3. That point is debatable and probably by more experienced than myself. I would say leave it.

while they are staying outside switching the light cycle is not so easy as you can guess...

are we sure that the plants will revert back to veg. after the buds are formed?

(I am working and I can't be home all the time, and there is no one else other than me to look after the plants)

EDIT: are black plastic litter bags enough for complete darkness?? ( I guess not but I'm still asking =) )

I would use a U-haul box. Big one. My firend has been doing this with pretty good success. He puts them out in the morning before work and in the box when he gets home. I can attest that it is not an exact light cycle, but damn if it doesn't work.

If you dont translplant them before flower they will die during flower or have many problems. At a minimum it would severely hurt yield. I have grown plants in five gallon buckets, gotten 3.5 zones a piece, and the total height from dirt in the pot to the top of the highest cola was no more than 18 inches. The plants were about 2 foot radius, so they were wider than they were tall. A chode of a plant. If you transplant to 2.5 gallon buckets and flower a week or two later and continue LST you should have no problem keeping them under a meter including pot size.

Yeah... he's right about the container size. If I were you I'd keep them tied down and force them to flower now, so maybe they won't be too big for the container when flowering...Use the U-haul method.. They way to it would be decide when you can be there..either morning or evening. If you can be there in the morning then you put the box over them some time during the night..(I'd do it about 4am, so they don't have to spend too much time under the box). Then you pull the box off about 8 am or so(same time every day).. You'll harvest a month earlier than everyone else. Also with those container sizes, you better be watering and feeding often.. One feeding followed by one watereing, followed by one feeding and so on and so on.

Oh one more thing... I just looked at your photos again. Tie those tips down so they are lower than the rest of the plant. That will cause the side branches to shoot up. They way your doing it now will keep the top going and your going to run out of room when you have these 4 feet long plants strung out all over the place. Also don't be afraid to line them up so they are closer. Like this:
container-------------tip
tip-------------------container
container---------------tip
tip------------------------container

Hope that makes sense. They don't need as much space between them as your giving them and doing it this way will make it so the box fits over them.

Good luck

What is this U-haul method i hear so much about. Do you actually rent a U-haul box to put them in or is that just a term for putting any kind of box over them?

damn-mites if you have a shed or something similar you could always move your plants in there for the 12 hours of darkness, providing that your shed doesnt let any or much light in. What i will be doing is move them to my shed when the day nears sundown and put them back outside the next morning.
