I'm tellin ya. try pinching.

you get the same result as topping, only the growth is faster and there's no injury to the
plant

twice a day, morning and night, and the results are amazing. pinch those grow tips! dont cut anymore!

some claim it stresses them blah blah blah. if you do anything to make them grow wider it will cause a little stress. i dont think bending branches, or cutting different places are much different. i know it wont hurt them, so whatever you find more convienent.

right. and this being a matter of fact?

come on, it doesn't take a genius. if I were to put little cuts all over you you'd survive just fine as well, but that doesn't mean it doesn't come with it's risks.

pinching doesn't stress the plant, it makes it think there's something it is way and it trys to grow around it. but it cant becasue you're pinching it, so it splits. sure it makes it work harder to grow, so I suppose that's bit of stress, but much less

plus, cutting does have it's chances of infection, if you've never had it, then lucky you, but I've heard some horrible stories.

I've always heard that people take clippings from the lower branches that don't matter much. they take them after the plant has shown that it's successful.

I'm not against cutting when it's needed, but I sure don't agree with topping.

Pinching is the act of weakening the main stem by literally pinching it and gently rolling it between your thumb and forefinger. The stem should bruise and hang downward after you are done. It will eventually thicken up at the place you pinched it and straighten back up. It allows the side branching to catch up to the canopy without the loss of your main cola.

Some refer to this as supercropping.

christ that sounds horrible...

I don't do it like that. I pinch it 2 or 3 times a day right at the grow tip itself (right at the end of the new growth). a good pinch, but definetly no rolling.

seems to work fine for me.

supercropping eh? that's a good term for it.

I roll hard and I have to pinch about once a week. Give or take depending on vigor.

Here is a link to a well diagrammed sticky from another forum.

to each his own

I think it's a bit silly to damage the plant. it doesn't make sense to me. damage is bad.
