ive been thinking of trying this but havnt had the opporunity or space to do it. anyone ever tried training a plant along the ground, kinda in the way a watermelon creeps around? i would think it would kinda raise your yeild a bit, seeing as how what woulda been popcorn buds at the bottom of the plant are the same size as all the rest cause its fully exposed. branch everything out and just train every branch out and along the ground.... i could see an initial problem being disease as the plants crawling along the ground, but if you mulched around before hand, that could be eliminated...i think... wuddya think. anybody ever try anything like this? | ||

I grow indoors, in soil, and I train my plants along the ground, across their containers. It allows me to fill out my grow space and maintain an even canopy with multiple colas. The mainstem is about an inch above the ground, you can tell which one it is at the top right of the picture. The secondaries are also pulled out at about an inch or 2 above the soil to the edge of the container and then allowed to turn upwards. You could do the same thing outdoors. I use normal electrical wire, cut into 6-8" pieces and curled into a hook to tuck into the ground until the stem or secondary is long enough to reach the edge of the bucket. Just keep tucking it until you want it to turn upwards. Indoors, my plants stay 20-28" tall (except for my last grow which went wild on me). At it's tallest point from the soil, that plant is 6" tall and ready for flowering. Try it outside and journal the grow.. pass to the right..![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A hugely noticeable difference. My first grow in this room, before I rebuilt it all, was untrained and 28" tall. She only had 1 main cola and was 1 1/4 ounces of crappy weed that you had to smoke a lot of to get high. The best plant I've harvested this year was 4 1/2 ounces of great bud. By training it, I get multiple cola's per plant, and usually one main that fills out the whole stem with bud. I trim out the really small lower growth so the colas and bigger secondary buds get all the growth. I'm certainly not an expert at it by any means - search LST - you'll find tons of how-to's..

![]() ![]() ![]() | Makes sence to me for you to tie it down...as underthestairs says you get more seconderys so id say go for it.. Maybe use tent pegs and string then you can tie it down but keep it 10" off the ground... ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | heres a plant Im in the process of lst'ing. as you can see theres plenty of new branching going on, even on the smaller inner branches. its still stretching a little, but temps are a likelier cause. some plants take better to it than others, Ive snapped tops off on others because the stems were hardenening up too quickly, so be careful. this one takes to it great, she seems to be a perfect candidate for lst.
