![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Skunkoid unleashed, [pic 1] just a few sticks to hold colas in place. Had to open her up because of bugs; mites in top and aphids down below. pic 2 and 3 mervine. 1 stick holding her top down. laterals gradually pushed forward with sticks then tops in the light and hold themselves. pic 4 - the power of horizontal. fills a branch out. Will get motherland on track this week, get some more trainees set up. Some more experiments underway. Some veg tinkering. lol nigel

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Im not trying to be rude here, so please dont take it the wrong way, but, the harvest you posted was really small IMHO for the number of plants you had, especially with your extensive training set up.. What do you contribute the small yield to? I have seen ppl online get 2-3 times the yield with half the plants and far less complicated/extensive traiuning set ups. Was there something that contributed to the small yield? Last edited by cancer_patient1; 06-22-2009 at 05:59 PM..

Thanks for contributing, cancer_patient1. I attribute my last low yield to the fact that I am not a very good gardener. I can move those branches around but I keep making key mistakes. All pictures and references in this training thread to this date have come from my Big Bud journal. Here is a partial list of what contributes to my low yields: 1. Too many males. When I grow from seed I tend to select sprouts to keep based on first to pop and strongest. This tends to favor males. 2. Too many light timing mistakes. I had lights on two different timers that were 1 hour off. This caused the plants to re-vegetate. 3. Too rough with the transplant. I hacked my way through a root bundle when I transplanted my mother plant to the grow cabinet. This killed it. 4. Too much going on. Peak 19 from seed with the subsequent male/female mix; Big Bud Clones that were at various levels of health. In addition to the mistakes that I mentioned above, I do not test pH; I do not adjust humidity; I do not test EC. Bottom line, I'm showing all my warts as I experiment with what I think is a good training method. Yield is important and that is the ultimate goal. I'm hoping that others--like Nigel--who are good gardeners will take the training ideas and run with them. Thanks again cancer_patient1. The thread was screaming for someone to ask the very question that you did.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | thanks alot for the reply.. I am very interested in your training method and was very perplexed as to why the yield wasnt better than it was.. Very detailed explanation, thank you.. I am just a noob and have had 3 failed grow attempts before this one and have just started flowering on this, my 4th attempt, so I know first hand just how difficult it is.. Its alot more than just "dirt/seed/water = smoke". thanks again

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think something else you have to take into account Cancer Patient, is what i call the grams per square foot ratio. While the total harvest per plant may be smaller, the potential harvest per square foot is greater than in most grow regimes. I think too, that often Scrub sacrifices yeild in the pursuit of knowledge and improvements. I have seen him try a few things that have worked; and a few things not quite as well. The technique has a lot going for it , both for cabinet grows and hybrid arrangements i am trying. Pinning something with a stick is so much more adaptable than a piece of string. Glad your in flower and hope you get there this time. We are of course, all up against 'mj murphy's law'; what can go wrong will go wrong. lol nigel

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had a terrible string of bad luck with faulty lights.. I finally gave up on HIDs and went with a HOT5 for veg and flower . Last edited by cancer_patient1; 06-24-2009 at 03:12 AM..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Do know a lot about lights, but recommend you read Sso 's thread 'the use of light' in theories and speculation. Sorry you have had dramas with mj; she is a fickle mistress lol. I do not think there is a perfect way to do it, my first grow was a dissapointment and i have killed a lot of plants. Keeping it simple and staying relaxed, / only doing what the plant asks, not what you want; are 2 maxims i use to keep myself under control. The biggest killers of plants are too much water, nutes and lights; people try too hard sometimes. lol I agree with you about more males in early germinators Scrub; i tend to favour late germinators. One day when i clear the backlog of projects, i would like to test that one. I found some late germinators in the garden. They have not come up in the trays, but have come up in mid winter, a month later. where i tossed the tray's dirt onto the veggie bed. Arctic strain lol nigel
