![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | FINally remembered to get some BBQ skewers, found a pack for $2.50 for 200, so set for a bit. Refurbished the cage [pic 1] and pinned down tip and back shoots. Miss Freakshow has made it to end of cage [pic 2], so will consider flowering her in near future to try and get laterals happening in earnest. These are a few mothers [pics 3, 4 and 5] i tinkered with, stick and chain meets LST lol nigel

The grow cabinet now has eight plants. Seven are Peak19 from seed. Gender unknown. The eighth plant is a Big Bud female clone. Sister to plants in previous examples. To accomodate plant height and size differentials, I've decided to train all plants at the top chain level shown in the photos. The height of the Big Bud female has dictated the training level chosen. She is being fanned out to cabinet right. Two branches are too tall to go right any further. The weight of two training sticks that I have floating on the canopy help push these two branches toward the front of the cabinet. The Peak19 are of various sizes and some or all may be male. I want to use the stretch to get all the Peak19 to the top training level. To do that, I've placed training sticks at various levels to channel all growth as directly up as possible. I should have gender identified by the time these Peak19 reach the top training level. Numbers on marked photos: (1) and (2) are Training Sticks that are floated on the canopy (3) and (4) are Training Sticks used to channel growth straight up (4) also marks two parallel blue planes to emphasize the channel of growth.

Front-to-back separator sticks that span the cabinet from left to right are useful but cumbersome. Floating sticks on the canopy provide a useful tool to turn branches that hit the cabinet side but this is hap-hazard. Here are three ideas that combine the best of these turning solutions and maintain flexibility.

I added a short 18 inch chain at the left and right of the top training level. This will hopefully let me turn branches that hit the right side.

MRPINPN4EVA asked back at Post #11, "Does this method of training stress the plants." I basically said, "Yes, but not too much." Well, the exampie plants from Post #4 on were all stressed into revegtation by a light timing issue. There will be no bud shots from these. Also, the example Big Bud clone from recent posts has died. This plant died from stress due to transplant. I had to severely cut the root ball to get it out of the vegetation cabinet. After a weekend flush, this plant too appears to have died. Not related to the Training Method, but ... you had to know.

Skunkoid is now spread out. Could not have done it without sticks. best wishes nigel

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have not yet removed the 'dead' Big Bud Clone. It may still bounce back. When I transplanted this lady I took a machete to the roots to get it out of the veg room tote. I feared that that root cutting would be too severe. So, it is iffy. This plant may still come back. Nigel, I like the 'stand-alone' training cage. And you have at least one side that acts as a door. Nice planning. I noted a couple of things that perhaps you can comment on. First, I see bamboo sticks and, I think, wooden sticks. I don't see the skewers that you mentioned. Any comparison information on these. Second, can you explain the vertical sticks in the photos?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sorry, the pics are misleading. I was trying to show how the screen and cage attached. That edge ended up folding under pot edge. That,s why it was so fiddly. lol. I need to cut a hole for access, but still pondering where. In the side and i lessen cage rigidity and sacrifice stick anchor points. In the top screen, i lose vertical anchor points. The bbq skewers were too short for this cage. [13 inches square pot] lol I have used the bamboo as a temporary solution till i locate something thinner. I have tried splitting them, but results were not uniform for length, and the rough edges caught up on plants. As usual here, using what is available at time, to compensate for my poor planning. LOL ! The vertical sticks are for directing the branches. Sequence of events being - putting in support stick stick at base of skunkoid, folded her down over that and held down with training stick. Working from base of stem up, vertical sticks are used to pull branches to back and sides of cage, then horizontal sticks used to support and train branches on that plane. Most vertical sticks, and some of the training sticks are temporary. Early days, Skunkoid is already fighting back and sending up vertical growth. I hope that clarifies. best wishes nigel
