Ok, after reading through this thread it seems it is best to simply try it to see if your strain does better. I noticed that everybody agrees you should start very early. Since I doubt anyone wants to work this hard only to have the thing turn out to be a male may I assume either of these methods should only be used for clones?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | No Bro, I've done it from seed with great results.. I was looking for a good mother plant to make clones from so I planted 5 seeds and LST'd them all.. Then when I picked one I had a nice shrub to get plenty of clones from. One of my plants did turn out to be a total hermie. The rest got flowered out and did pretty good.

From what I gather from this awesome thread is that plants should be lst'd all through vegging and then let loose to flower, or even let loose a week or two after flowering starts to decrease stretch?. So then there will be as many colas as possible but still enough time to let the colas grow huge. Do I have this right?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Great thread, not much I could add. All the posts here seem very informative about the subject. At the moment all my efforts are focused on my summer outdoor grow and how to best train the plants in my yard for stealth more so than bud developement. At the moment all the plants I have placed in the ground have undergone topping/fim/lst. Now I will stand back and get out of the way and they will do their thing. I noticed after doing an extreme job of spreading the branchs along the ground with a series of hoop stakes I would fashion out of heavy wire, the growth tips within 48 hours would straighten themselves out and the plant was thriving again. When it was first pinned down it didnt look very happy about it but it will reward me latter on in spades. I have seen these internal branchs that are now exposed and flattened out pancake style produce massive size stalks resembling entire plants emerge from the results of this extreme bending. I once grew a plant 14 feet in diameter useing this method. Unfortunatly the plant also got 14 feet in height, which I would like to avoid this go around. Inside vs outside, it's a whole different world. HID lighting cant began to do what mother nature and the right conditions will accomplish outdoors. I have had bottom branch colas growing sideways that were the size of baseball bats. This is not a reflection on anything I did besides bending the plant when it was young.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the sooner you start, the easier it is to form the plant and spread it out. the later you start the less of a circle the plant is or takes longer to make it so, i find it too bothersome starting very early *fiddling with fine strings* so my plants have a more rectangular shape.*which fits my space anyway* but really, as long as you give it enough veg time and the stems bend enough, even 1 month into veg is not too late. but the later you wait, the more potential budsites will be lost to shade and the bigger the top cola is compared to the others *potentially shading out others* the top cola will always be a little bigger though, unless you top. but if you start soon enough the difference will be neglible. the more budsites you have or want, the longer you will have to veg to get them up to size. the thicker the stem, the bigger the bud. usually about 3 buds for me are the biggest. first i bend the plant back and 2 budsites become equally big to the first, then i bend those back and depending on patience or other things, whether i wait for them to become almost as big or not. i like having more tops, i thought 7 was good and anything over was too much and resulting in smaller buds, but then i realised it depended on veg time and how big each budsite got before flowering, so now i have 10-15 or so. one big carpet.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | but...having seen plants where sidelighting was equal to the top. and the plant was one massive bud.... im not sure lst gives you more yield in the end, just gives you more lighting with top lighting only * if you have 50 thousand lumens *f.e* on top and some 40-90w cfls on the side, you mainly have toplighting, im talking having equal light hitting the entire plant.*
