First real ScrOG, need advice
permalink

Hey Guys,

I'm about to deploy my first real ScrOG. I've used screens before, but more for support and not for weaving the plants through during veg.

I have a 3'x4' space with the screen in place. I plan to move in 2 Phatt Fruity plants, and one White Widow. The Phatt Fruities are more robust and what I expect to grow into the majority of the space. That said, lets assume for arguments sake that there will only be two plants in the area.

I want to know where to start the plants under the screen and which directions to weave the growth to fill up the screen. Should I start both plants on one side and grow left-right, or should I start in the middle and weave the growth outward radially?

Do I want my main shoots more centrally located and under the lights with the smaller side branches out towards the perimeter?

Is there a good guide to ScrOG growth gemoetry?

Thanks!

Hey. I can't give you the right, or scientific answer --- just what I do.
.
My scrog is dictated by my space more than to pursue the technique. I've got four bubble buckets each with a plant in it. The buckets are centered under the screen (for all practical purposes they butt up against each other)
.
I think of the plants like they're an "X". I top the plants so I have two main branches.
X X
X X
Then I train one toward the perimeter and one toward the center. This exposes the middle of the plant and the lower branches. Open to the light these branches will grow up into the screen.
.
And I don't so much "weave" the plant as pull them back under/against the screen until it grows to the hole I want it to grow into. I use strips of those velcro-esque plant ties to train the buds out of the way of one another.

I believe with a screen that size, you would do best to start in the center and train to the edges
this girl has been under her 2'x2' screen for a week, but I did some LST training before she went under.

How many inches from the base of the plant, or top of the bucket should the SCRoG screen be? This is my first time SCRoGing and want to be sure the screen is at proper height for maximum protential- i.e. Colas on top of the screen, not below.

just make sure you leave enough room between them to work with out to much effort, most everything under the screen should be pruned away as they grow, more energy for your tops

Yes, I'm not going to place the screen so low that I won't be able to get beneath the screen, but I also do not want to place the screen to high, making it useless.

So I was wondering how many inches from the base of the plant or top of the bucket/pot would be best to have the screen, so I could plan my vegetive growth/training accordingly.

I'm no expert but I would guess that you would base that on the minimum distance your setup would allow between your lamp and the bud tops. Add that to the expected stretch of the plants once you flip to 12/12 and that would probably be the maximum safe height for the screen (depending on the strain I suppose).

Or am I missing something?

Good luck with your ScrOG. I've only done one myself but it was great. There will be more in my future.

Peace.

Good morning,

I don't grow using this method but, I do use the LST training method which i've always thought is "scrog" without the screen..
When I read Binxy' post about creating an "X" pattern look to his plants I immediately thought of an AK47 flowering out now came to mine.
While looking down on her from above you can clearly see an "X" pattern in how she was trained, this of course was non-intentional, she just turned out this way..

Anyway, I just wanted to throw this out there cause it reminding me of the "X" factor. Would this be an "X" pattern your looking for for a scrog?

Have a Great day

Yes, this would make sense. But, observing another user's attempt at SCRoGing, they found they should've started/placed their screen much lower. Which I'm assuming this was because this person based his initial screen height from what his space would allow. As he also has more experience than I, I'm trying to learn from his slights and over come this potential obstacle now.

I have about 8ft in height, before the HID hood is installed, and will be able to lower the light if need be.
