Good thread.

That's fine if you just want some clones to grow but if you're trying to keep a strain going, it's much better to clone good primary tops as they will grow into better plants which more closely maintain the phenotype of the mother.
Good morning,

If I intend on keeping a strain going as a Mother I "always" remove the top of a plant "topping" prior to going into a flower session.
When just cutting clones to goto a flower session I take lower branches as these will be flowered and cut down during harvest.. Only topped mothers do I keep longer term. I have been known to regen flowered plants and reflower them in another session after some vegging to get an elder (older more mature plant which I feel might produce better flower than the first harvest, harvest - if that makes sense.
But, thanks for the advice..

Have a Great day

So eliminating the lower growth right towards the end of its veging, we will see an increase in yield using this method? To make sure I understand this correctly: aside from more light being dedicated to the highest points of bud production... further production is increased because the plant can put more energy into the flowers that remain.

I am confused though, because I had read in another post that removing leaves and stems from parts of the plant can cause it to use its energy for healing in replace of flower production, causing smaller yields.

Good morning,

Actually, removing the lower portions of the plant or the "popcorn" buds does nothing for the light penetration as very little to no light will get down there anyway, so by removing this lower growth puts all the energy to the upper colas.. I understand this part!
It has been suggested in other threads (one from nigel comes to mind) where he talks of removing all the lower branches, I believe during flowering to promote upper cola growth as all energy that would've been wasted on the lower "Popcorn" now goes to the upper more important.
As far as removing leaves/stems I believe its an excessive amount of removal that may cause smaller yeilding but, through selective prunning may eliminate this. I think
if I understand this correctly.

Have a Great day
