Light ? for a 4x4 SOG
permalink

I just finished a grow of 44 plants in a 4x4 tray under 4 600w SunSys HPS with SuperSun reflector and the results have been great so far, especially since this is only my second grow. From 24 plants completely dried I yielded about 26 ounces of primo sativa dominant hybrid. For my next grow I was thinking of trying 36 plants in a 4x4 tray under only 1200 watts. I would hate to start a grow with insufficient light and have to rectify it late in the cycle, which would have to end up hurting my yield. Unfortunately I do not have a light meter to directly asess my situation and would greatly appreciate any and all help.

P.S. Should he happen to cruise by here, many thanks to the wise and powerful OzGrowa without whom I would have never felt confident in trying SOG, thanks for all the informative posts.

Well...

The recommended lumens per sq. ft. is about 5,500. 1000w alone would give you over 8,750 lumens per sq. ft.

Which is more than enough IMO

At first read I instantly thought you were looking for praise for your obviously well lit garden. But maybe not ,so I have to say thats alot of light for a 4x4 area. Most of it is probably being wasted.Your only as strong as your weakest link and light definately isnt it.I would double the area.

Wow, that is a lot of light, how far from the plants were they?

Did you get any bleeching on the tops of the plants?

The Grow Guide tells us 7500 lumens per square foot is optimal, those 600 watters should be about 90,000 lumens each giving you a total of 360,000 lumens, divide that into your 16 square foot of floor space and your getting 22,500 lumens per square foot.

1200W should be more than enough for that space, I imagine 16 plants would be comfortable with a square foot each, though I'm planning my next grow in 8" pots right next to each other, which means in your space I could get 36 plants, go SOG

Please start a grow journal and PM me a link to it, Good Luck.
