however long you wish.. depending on the space & resources you have.

An obviouse sign of maturity is when the branches on the stalk and main branches begin to alternate (phylotaxy), this shows that the plant is ready to fully respond to flowering, it doesnt necassarily mean the plant must be flowered at that point.

for example, I have a 3 and half month old plant, the majortiy of branches on it have more alternating internodes then oppoiste internodes, this shows the plant is mature, but yet I continue to veg' because I have the room and health in my hands, and I also wish to increase the overall yeild by this plant.

since the plants stretch (grow taller) so much during the first couple weeks of 12/12 its a good idea to start flowering when the plants are shorter so by the time there done there stretch they wont be too tall for the room there growing in by mid flowering.. get the idea If you only have 5feet of vertical space and your plants are two feet tall, you should flower, by the time there done stretching they'll be 3 and a half feet tall, lets say.. that leaves you with a foot and a half of space to adjust your lighting.. keep in mind, this is allot of generalization.. each strain and growing enviroment has its own paticular responding factors.

hoped this helped a bit
