topping a plant
permalink

So I have these plants I want to top. I've never really read about how to do it before, and didn't really know of the concept until a week ago.

The plants are really weird. I took clones off them, so at one point they were a lot of stem. Also, the stem's turned completely brown, I think because I had too much air blowing on it. The top of the plant is really weird, it has about five or six nodes in two inches of growth, so I'm not sure if I should top it now.

I may have let the plants get rootbound or done many other bad things. Now each one has a 32 watt compact flourscent.

Sounds like its already started to flower...don't top it, or you'll lose the buds its now forming...a pic would be mightily handy!!

Say...take a look at the help link below too.. Welcome aboard, & look forward to great buds from your cuttings soon, as well as what you got growing..

I agree with BadPkat, lots of info lacking,& if flowering DON'T TOP IT. if you don't have to don't top IMO.... you can always tie it down, IMO your harvest will not be that much bigger and when you top a plant you will slow it down, some very good growers top, I do only if needed, but you realy need to know where, when, and how, and clones taken from a plant in flower will alot of times have deformed leaves the first ones that grow new. pics. of it would help. if you slide the pot off real easy you can see if it's rootbound, and if you do top it go ahead and trim the rootball real easy not to much, repot and use no ferts till it starts to grow again. putting light on 18/6 for 10-15 days will speed up recover time a bit.
PEACE

That about sums it up. A search of the Nursery or Library may turn up an example of a plant that's rootbound. Any other discussions regarding whether or not a plant is rootbound should be taken to the Nursery, though. It's off-topic for this forum.

DJ Keef-
What are you trying to achieve, by topping?. Not exactly clear as to what you want to know. Topping, as a subject, has been discussed several times in the Training Forum. Have a look.

The plant's not flowering. I've grown before and I know what it looks like, sorry I wasn't describing it very well.

I made a better setup and over the past few days the plants shot up some new sprouts. All I want to acheive is to be able to take a clone from the plant, as I've already cut off the few branches. I really just need to read the Training Forum, but I'm lazy. I'll get on it. I really want to keep a mother plant and be able to take a bunch of clones from it, but I've probably messed up the 4 I have growing now and will have to make proper use of the 5 clones I took from them two weeks ago. They aren't going so well, but I haven't lost a clone yet and they still have a little green on them.

Heya DJ. Our friend, buzzmobile has dug up a couple links about topping in the Training Forum. Check out this thread, for more info. One or both should have pics, for a visual aid.
