How many plants for my area? (scrog)
permalink

Whats up everyone,

I have 4 seedlings (edit: female seeds, Northern Lights) and I am not sure how many I should grow for my area. I plan on doing a scrog. Its 4wx4hx2d.

Now with 4 plants in this area, this would allow each plant only 1' of horizontal growth in the screen. The screen will be close to the pots as I only have 4' of heigth. With 2 plant I will have 2' of screen for horiz growth. What should I do? What would fill the screen out the most?

any help would be appreciated

thx

I'd suggest using 4 plants based solely on the fact that males are a possibility. Using 4 plants gives a 6.25% chance that all four are males (based on 50% chance of male/female) while 25% chance with only 2 plants. Also, you have more ability to control the horizontal space using the screen or with training so I imagine you could manipulate the plants to control the horizontal area problems that could arise.

you should wait until take clones from your female(s) out of the four seedlings you planted. no point in waisting your time with a scrog until your working with female genetics

Hydro does have a great point, before going through all the troubles (and to prevent later hassles dealing with males) of scrogging, it's good to take a cutting from each of the plants to flower to see what you got. Then you can cull the males and then tie up/scrog your females without worry.

Hehe, that's quite all right drOp. I'd still go with four because i'm sure you'll be able to find enough room for all of them quite nicely. Also, you'll have more plants to compare each one to to see how well each is growing and just in case something awful happens to a plant (knock on wood), you'll still have a few left instead of just one.
Good luck

What size pots do you use? Is there a formula or something based on the dimensions of the grow space?
