don't you think this is the biggest give away to cops that you are doing something abnormal when your electricity bill is 2-3x higher than your neighbors?

No not at all. An electric bill can considerably increase for thousands of legal reasons as opposed to only 1 illegal reason

I can go out right now and buy 2, 500watt halogen lamps for reading, and guess what, It's perfectly legal to do so. That would explain a 1000watt increase right there alone.

not everyone needs this much power on a 12 hr per day basis eh?

That doesn't matter either. It can be anything running for 12 hours. It can be a pool heater, a hottub, anything. Computers use like 500watts, so do you think that right now an electric company is thinking you are growing. Besides that an increased electric bill is not enough to order a search warrent. Think. What if they used solely the electric company to get warrents, busted in every house only to find out they were wrong? They would look like (and would be) fools. The media would have a field day, the public would be outraged in this waste of this time and money. How do they know I didn't add an extra fridge in my house, that is always running? They don't. The reason people get busted is because they have big mouths and get ratted out. Nobody gets busted by power companies except those who using 5000 watts.

I agree, except the number is more along the lines of 20 1000 watt lights, not 5.

That is true RockClimber, but I personally would not feel comfortable running 5000watts either.


Let us not forget also that people do grow other things indoors. What if a cop busted in my house because of an electric bill, only to find out I grow tomatos and hot peppers!

Gardening is a huge hobby and guess what, it consists of growing more then marijuana.

man I bought a 2400w Air Conditioner last year for my unit.. i get home after work, flick it on, and leave it on for about 12 hours until the next day when I wake up, and flick it off before I leave for work.

That would be the equivelant to 2 x 1000w + a 400w HPS system!

Do you think i've had a visit from the cops, or a phone call, or even a letter from the utility company? man.. i'd be more concerned about smell, or your landlord.. or who else knows about your grow.
