I just use a 3 gallon bucket with about an ounce of soilmoist or water crystals(as its called on ebay) and about an ounce of my favorite essential oil for (soap making, also on ebay or found at a craft store) and mix it with about 2-3 gallons of hot tap water.I place it in my area with a fan, works great. The fan kicks enough air around that it actually carries the scent.Pretty simple.Never heard of ona before, but it only costed me $ 7.00 for the water crystals and essence oil and it has lasted over a month so far.I still have alot of oil and crystals to last me quite a while. I like the blueberry smell the best!

I can't find ONA

-and I don't have time to order it off the internet, is there a substitute I can use?

the only thing similar I can find is Zeolite pet freshener - I

guess i'll just mix it up and try.

My two cents worth...

Built one as in the instructions EXCEPT I drilled a large number
of much bigger holes using a 5/8" wood bit. This is a must as
the air flow is not good with smaller holes. Using the size drill
originally suggested, you could readily hear the fan slow down
and as I used to be a firefighter... I could just see the real bad
overheat/fire possibilities. I place the gel in a large plastic pan
in the bottom of the bucket.

My bucket sits right in the grow area and if left on non-stop
it takes the edge off. However, as the grow progresses, I
find the skunk still winning the battle (just at a slower pace).
During lights out the odor is under control now, when the 400
watts is on... it becomes a battle. I am adding ozone with a
timer to assure control.

BTW, Ona was not available here (so far), but a product called
"Optimum Growth's ODOR KILLER" is. It is likely the same sort
of item, and is available in crystals (actually the same copolumer
liquid absorbing gel (soil moist) as desribed in other posts) or a
bottle refill of the liquid (better deal).

I'm at 2 weeks on one bottle of the gel and still working great.
BYW, in a pinch the Glade "Neutralizer" carpet & room odor
neutralizer (Lowes has it) placed in pie pans and in the odor
bucket or behind the fans will work for about 6-10 hours.
Again, better control when dark... lights just add more heat,
thus aroma to deal with!

Attached is a picture of MY odor bucket with the Honeywell
fan installed (Walmart sells the Honeywell version here now).

smell increase with hps

Have two lovely girls a couple weeks from harvest & have only small amount of smell. From what I read here, I'm guessing that the lack of smell is because my girls are growing under flouros???

I've ordered a 400 hps and plan to use that for my next planting. Logic suggest I ought to expect a stronger smell, yes? This bucket deodorizer sounds like and option I'll need to try.

Re: DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!

I agree, put huge holes in the sides towards the bottom just right above the liquid and this should work flawlessly.

20 small holes in that bucket doesn't look like it's nearly enough for intake. I'd be very worried about overheating that fan motor and starting a fire.
Just a few words of caution.
