surf the web anonymously 1. use an anonymizer. a web proxy is a website that communicates with a proxy ip address when then passes the information on to you. there are many sites available, and are easy to setup via your internet browser. the convenience comes with a price, speed, and not all websites play nice with proxies. also, if you do choose a webproxie at random, you could fall prey to a site designed to steal your information, not protect it. all proxy sites carry this risk, but you can decide for yourself a websites reputation. 2. manually configure a proxy. subscriptions are available at webproxie sites (see anonymizers above) but you can also do this manually. to get a list of available proxies nav to: ► PROXY LIST - FREE ANONYMOUS PROXIES & SOCKS - AliveProxy WEB SSL VPN Anonymous Secured Internet Access Services there you can sort proxies by various criteria. then setup the proxies within the browser of your choice. 3. tunnel with tor use tor and https for ultimate in securing your web surfing habits from prying eyes. download the preconfigured browser here: XeroBank - Privacy, Anonymity, Anonymous Surfing, Anonymous Email, Anonymous Proxy this requires no installation, in fact, you can run it from your USB key. because this method has you hopping nodes all over the world, you will be surfing slow. when you dont need the anonymous access, you can toggle the onion icon off. 4. use an alias when registering for a message board or anonymous email address, be creative. use different nicks and emails for different sites, making it difficult for snoops to track you. if you use the same alias everywhere you go, google will rat you out. 5. cover your tracks dont just think about online stalkers, there are offline ones too. get in the habit of clearing your browser's cache and cookies. delete browsing history often. disable browsing history in browsers, and look into installing add ons to browsers that enable turning off cookies and more.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I recently started using Anonymizer (thats the name of the product). They offer a decent package price for a disposable email service, spyware, a digital shredder (offline security), and the Anonymizer. I think one year is like 50 bux or something. I am wondering if an Anonymizer can be used in combo with a tunneling service like Jap or XeroBank.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was very intruiged by the Xerobank software because of its portability and offshore server location. I downloaded the free browser and it doesnt work with my Anonymizer. All the Anonymizer does is mask ones IP through their servers. I turned off Anonymizer and started to explore the XB browser. I was using the free slow version and it was adequate speed for viewing website. THEN I noticed that it appears to rely heavily if not entirely on the TOR network. If you arent familiar with TOR - Tor: anonymity online The reason I mention this, is because of an interesting blog from the creators of my Anonymizer software I just came across. The Privacy Blog » National Security If you have time read the article he references Rogue Nodes Turn Tor Anonymizer Into Eavesdropper's Paradise All that aside . . I think TOR is free, so all XB does is make it user friendly. I have an email into XB to inquire how much they rely on the TOR network.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ok, so apparently they use the Tor network with their free browser. Then when you upgrade you are moved to their network. brilliant marketing. ![]()

Now I delete my cookies, offline files, and history EVERY day...it only takes a few seconds and it's much, much better. Firewalls aren't a bad idea either, I just have Norton and I don't seem to get to much crap showing up on my computer. Great idea for a thread bobbooty

![]() | Please be adviced that most of the named ways to protect your anonymity online do not give you real anonymity! A web proxy is insecure, just test your favorite web-proxy here: Cloakfish.com - Anonymity analysis and most probably it will detect your real IP easily. Xerobank is also only secure if you use it for the Tor addon, the commercial Xerobank anonymity is far less anonymous than Tor. Cloakfish is like Tor, providing very high anonymity. But it's much faster. | ||

I think the best current method for the layman is tor. Tor: anonymity online Unfortunately for the non-computer scientist in can be tough to deal with. However the package installs on their website make it easier to get up and running with firefox. The good thing about tor is that it is open source, encrypted, community driven, and most importantly distributed. Its really hard for me to believe that a single point proxy solution wouldn't easily succumb to feds if they demanded they start logging. The big caveat is that it is slow.

The real issue that most don't realize is that all data sent through a proxy can be seen/logged by the proxy owner. Yes some can be encrypted but that doesn't really work. When I did research for a University, we setup a beautiful proxy and we used it analysis the type of data (risk) that people trust sending through a proxy.
