Ok so I live in a small town and my resources are limited. The only thing I could really find was a Kitchen range hood replacement carbon filter. Its like a 12X8 sheet or something. I cant afford to buy a nice scrubber so im looking to do a good DIY job. I noticed that there was one of those fecreeze plugin things that have carbon filters but im hoping I can make do with what I got.

So I have a 4" fan on the end of a 4" X 7 inch long aluminum duct. Can I just simply fold the filter that I have in half and tape it to the end with aluminum filter and than connect it to the outake so that the air moves it through and out. Will this work or does it have be designed like a srubber ( tube shape ).

hy there friend , look not many people try to invent stuff like that , that is the reazon why no reply untill now , also went you want any advice like this is best to post the treat in indoor or Marihuana growth, this is a security issue in a way but is also a standar indoor growing item.

Where i'm front you realy need to invent many stuff for lac of product avalible arround here.

The normal carbon scrubber filters have to big carbon semi circular sheets inside .

I sugest to try to fine a can about the size of the round duct and cut the carbon sheet in many round pices to fix tight inside the can one on top of the otherone to create enoufh layers of carbon for the air to pass and try to do some odor elimination in the prosses,
then attach this home made filter can to the extractor exaust with your duck tape to see if works .

I think is a wild idea but you better do something where the carbon scrubber is efective , by adding lots of sheets together you have more carbon filtering the air .

Remember this is a invent not garanty to work a all .

Try to find one of those air fresheners that work auto every hour or so and keep the odor under control hat way too , thats how i do it and works good ....

The key to DIY scrubbing is to expose as much surface area as possible.

Just having the end of a tube to suck air through sheets of carbon covered filter won't be as effective.

Bulk activated carbon pellets (ebay) are the best way to go.

You can get some window screen and roll it into a tube with one end on the fan and the other end maybe a end cap for support, fill it with carbon and use your carbon filter/screen as a pre-filter.

Surface area is v.i.p.

Believe it or not, I've used the silicon based kitty litter for odor control and found it just as effective as carbon, for atleast 4-5 months. The problem with it is that it also absorbs moisture and over time makes the fan work harder to push air through it. BUT it does work and runs about 10 bucks for a large enough container to make and refil a filter for your grow

Make it simple. A total opening of 12"x12" with a 1.5" to 2" deep layer of litter will scrub the air well. This can be a cardboard box, with screening attached to the bottom and litter on top of that, watch it cause it will pool in the center of the screen. You can cut wire clothes hangers and use those to support the screen if you want.
Tape the box up tight and stab the 4" into the top of it.
It wont be perfect or pretty, but it will do more then those thin carbon inpregnated filter sheets, and can be used in conjunction with cover ups for more effective control.

I've been looking for a while for a good design and think I might go with this if I don't buy one from HTG. I have a ? regarding odor control. When I am venting air out of my cab I planned on venting it out doors with one fan and scrubbing with another. Is the air I'm venting outside going to stink if I don't have a carbon filter hooked to it? Do I scrub with one and vent with another?

Im not sure I am totally following you bro, but what I do is vent and scrub with the same fan. The large stanley blower fans are the shit, really, and cheap too for the air flow. I have one that pulls air from each of the grow areas then forces it through a carbon scrubber and thats it. Dumps the air right back into my living space. No need to vent outside if its all scrubbed properly.
