Smell - How much is too much?
permalink

Hello all..

I've been at this for about a year now and have had marvelious (<great) sucess because of TGC and others like it. I thank all of you for your help.

I read alot about 'smell' and giant carobon filters and odorsoks (I bought 2) because of the anticipated "SMELL!"....

I grow in a 2x4x6foot cab.. pretty much 2 plants scrog'd. I know if there were 20 plants I would have a smell problem but with these 2 (I've run: DP-masterkush, (?)T44, Sannies Herijuana and BBCheese) I feel no need for the filter. Yes, I can smell them when I go into the room but not outside it.

The weed has been fantastic (<because I can't spell supurb! LOL!) and yield is better, so it's not like it isn't growing well.

Is my nose broke? My wife says I'm not sensitive.. is that what she meens?
She thinks my sense of smell sucks?!! LOL!!!!!

I grow in my own home, so I might be overlooking someone living in a smaller environment.. sorry.. I have freinds come over... we vape/smoke... no one knows... from smell.. I also have a cat.. kat litter you know.. better than carbon for MASKING any smell! LOL!

Gotta go.. high and rambling too much...

Even if you can't smell it, that's probably just because you're used to living with it. At my old place with a tiny two plant grow in a cab, it stunk in the room. If you kept that door shut, the house would be ok...forget to close the door, and you could smell it at the front door. IMO, this is one thing you can't live without if you're gonna grow. Since you already have one, it seems silly not to put it up.

Kitty litter does help though!

Smelling it outside the room is a bad thing. Deal with it quickly as you NEVER know when a cop may show up at your doorstep for reasons other than your girls.

Some strains arn't too smelly, and your nose does get used to it surprisingly fast.

Try leaving on vacation for a few days and come back and see how strong it smells. It will blow you away.

Yep. It used to be that I wouldn't notice any thing then but then my wife would come home and notice something right away that I didn't notice. I have taken care of the problem with carbon scrubbers. And that was for one plant.

this depends on so many things, wind, temperature, RH, genetics, etc. but, id say up to 50 feet, without any wind. more if there is wind, and if genetics are particularly stinky.

How many 'girls' there are in the garden will effect the smell pattern too.
More plants = more smell to dispurse over a larger area.

I say if you can smell it at all, it's too much. Why take a chance.
