![]() | No idea, but it will help someone who does know just how much light you have, and perhaps the temperatures of the room, as well as your ambient temperatures (outside). Hopefully someone else can actually help out d0x

Now think about whats typically in a basement. The furnace. Maybe a water heater. A washer and DRYER. All these things are perfectly normal items that put out a lot of heat. Law enforcement has to take these things into consideration. Remember that the idea is to hide in plain sight. Do not make yourself stand out from the rest of the neighborhood. Do any of your neighbors have dirt piled up along side their houses? | |||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | He is asking how many feet, not if he should tape up the windows. I looked into this when I built my basement and never found a solid answer. So I put a foot of concrete in as the roof with steel plates. Then backfilled with 3 ft of soil. I then ran the 2.5 inches of ashphalt driveway over that. I have no idea if it works, but nobody came calling. I gotta think that it would block it from the leo's eye at least. I even wrapped the interior with IR blocking material. I know this sounds like overkill but I have the means to do this kind of work at my fingertips, so why not. It's 25' x 25' with 10' ceilings. Stays nice and cool too!! Hope this helps some, Good Luck! EMj

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | from what i have read - leo is allowed to run IR from public property i realize the rule is dont worry unless your over 2000 watts but i also have the means and i can afford it for piece of mind variety of basement style homes in mu area not worried about standing out as far as tamps and size i have descided not to reveal that any longer for security purposes for the sake of this conversation lets say how much earth would it take regardless my guess was 4ft but who knows?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I know he didn't say anything about windows...that's my point. If you don't have a modified basement please do not interject. We are not taking about a typical basement but a underground room...get it? Thanks. As far as 4 feet I think that should be good. I went with 3 feet because I wanted the high ceilings and I knew I was gonna put the foot of concrete(bridge mix too heheh) on top. I think that 48" is good because the frost won't even get that far so I don't think with 5-10,000w you will generate enough heat to be seen. The thing I worry about is the vents showing up as heat flowing. I have fixed this problem but can't say because it's pretty killer and I have said enough about my space. If the frost can't get there, I don't think that heat can get there. Then again I do not know what piece of equipment leo is using. Good Luck! EMj

i have been spinning in my head about vent. and the heat sig. i have been trying to engineer in my head how to get rid of it was thinking of either running pipe 20ft and at the end of the pipe cut a hole in both sides of a larger plastic cooler (inlet and outlet) to run vent in and out of the cooler then run water line with float to keep water levels constent then set a pump with water spaying during vent but this all seems extreme - is there an easier way

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | just use it to heat the house.... like a furnace Or use a watercooled AC system and a 100% sealed room. Then you can dump all your heat down the drain. You dont need an underground room to block IR... I'd be afraid that 4 feet of earth is not enough to prevent having a glowing driveway. You can build a room within a room out of foam panels, elevate it off the concrete on wood so it wont heat up the concrete... Then blow cold air in the gaps around the room.. The trick is insulation, not burying it... remember concrete and earth conduct heat fairly well.... Air on the other hand, is a fairly good insulator...
