Greetings all- I want to give you some info about about myself and my plans for a small grow operation. Please feel free to be candid.

About me: I am 33 years old a father of 2 and very happily married. I have a successful career and own my own home. I do not have any criminal history connected to MJ. I am clean cut and considered a professional individual. I have virtually no true social life. Which is okay with me.

My beliefs: I think MJ is best suited for responsible adults who take their risks without adding risk to others. I think MJ is a benign drug but it is still a drug and should be handled as such. Meaning it has no place in or around work-time hours. No adult should, IMO, act as a gateway for any child to pick this type off-time activity. I also think it is our right to be able to use MJ in a responsible way without worry of repurcussion. I also think that the sale of MJ for personal profit is wrong. You just never know what hands it will end up in and it's an unfair advantage to hard working people when others are making big money very easy.

My plan: I intend to spend a good $1000 on a stealth operation for 3 or 4 plants. I plan to do 2 harvests per winter which should yield me enough to last a year or so. Then tear down during the summer when we have more house company and life is generally more busy. I have absolutely no intention for selling any of my smoke. Whatever is left from my previous harvest will be vacuum packed and put into a deep freeze for later. My cabinet will be 36" x 36" x 53" 2 T5 fluoros 50 watts each and 1 400 watt HPS.

My questions are about my likelyhood of getting caught. I live in the US and am worried about even buying the equipment to get going. Here are my questions.

1. There is a hydro store in my city (about 200,000 population). How safe is it to persoanlly visit the store to buy my hardware and what payment method should I use?

2. Buying seeds online. Seriously, has anyone really ever heard of someone getting nabbed for this? Is there someone here that has had seeds confiscated and continued to grow for years thereafter without any problems and continued to buy seeds online?

3. infrared scanning- Does anyone know for certain if this really is an invation of privacy? Does anyone know of someone getting caught because of it with a grow my size? If I need to block infrared what is the best method?

I am taking stealth very seriously here. The way I look at it. As long as no one knows what I am doing and I don't sell I should be able to smoke all I want well into retirement.

So, considering what I have told you, what do you think my chances are of successfully staying under the radar.

I buy 99% of my equiptment and service on line with only the Rare slip up will i go to a hydro store 60 miles away...

I have bought seeds on line several times with no problems. If they do intercept them you will just git a notice that you cain't have them here and they will be confiscated with no other action.

Forget about infrared it ain't gona be an issue..

High Mazrim. Welcome to the Garden.
I wouldn't worry about infrared (FLIR) too much. They have to have a warrant in order to use it and have it be admissible in court.
Hydro stores are very safe. Just pay with cash so there is no paper trail.
BUying seeds online is done all the time. Once in a while, an order will be seized by customs. You'll get a letter form the Border Patrol and that's about it. I would recommend buying from Dr Chronic.com or Breedbay - they have great choices of strains and very good stealth shipping.

Only heads up I will give you, is as much as it would suck getting your house taken away, it would suck a bit more getting your kids taken away. They can and have done both to people. It's standard practice now, at least around here in NY, to file additional charges of endangering the welfare of a child if there are kids in the house. At the least, social services, child protection services, whatever they call it in your area, will become part of your life. Not trying to be negative, I know lots of people who grow, and no one I know personally has ever got caught. Just letting you know the possibilities. I grew near 20 years ago for a while, got paranoid about that, and quit til recently now that my kids are semi gone ( ) off to college. Just playing devil's advocate,

Thank you all for your input.

Tripps- No sweat on the levity of your post. I appreciate the input. I really do need to consider every single angle. And another reason why I need to examine everything before I move into motion. Everything is planned, money is set aside. All I need to do is get moving.

I don't smoke a whole lot. Daily for sure, but only in the evenings after kid's homework is done, dinner, baths etc. Then I go down to my office and pop on star trek or a video game and roast out for a couple hours. This is my pleasure and I figure it is a resonable reward for completing another successful day.

I just have to make sure all my gaps are sealed, so to speak, and I have 100% containment on this before I begin. I just think my situation makes me very unlikely to get caught as long as I don't get stupid or do stupid things out of ignorance. My wife says she trusts me to do this responsibly and is almost strangely accepting and supportive. (Did I mention happily married? ) I live in an upper middle class brand new neighborhood where cops don't really come to. And most of all I don't carry a social life that has me in any type of contact with the pot culture even though I have smoked since I was too young to start.

After I retire though I was thinking of becoming active in rallying for decriminalization. Pot has always been my one true great enjoyment. I quit smoking cigarettes after 20 years but I really see no need to quit smoking pot. Why? I love it and it doesn't slow me down.

Hydro stores are totally safe as long as you pay with cash. Don't go in there looking and smelling like a pothead and paying with a credit card. Pay with cash and if anyone asks-tell 'em you're growing tomatoes . As far as ordering seeds online go, I only did it once and it worked out fine. If you're paranoid like me go to Wal-Greens and get a prepaid visa gift card and register it under a false name but to your address so that if anyone comes'a'knockin' then nothing has you're name on it (but seriously, no one will come knocking).

By the way, Mazrim, you sound like a cool guy and are pretty representative of how I'd like to picture myself in about 15years
