EXIF Data Tags and GPS Co-ordinates

Hey everyone.

I remember a previous post on EXIF data but I thought this should be separate.

The information stored in EXIF data tags from digital cameras is overwhelmingly harmless. But I just found out that some cellphones are storing GPS co-ordinates in JPEG EXIF tags. I'm not sure how wide spread the implementation is; there only seems to be anecdotal and second hand info from what I could find. But I think it's something one should consider when posting up pictures taken with a cellphone.

I know mr bootay looks down on spreading paranoia. Well I hope I'm not just high and paranoid.

I can see that being possible depending on the GPS capabilities of the phone, thankfully I don't have a phone that nice.. .

LOL I've had a cell phone or 2 for over 20 years, back when you had to carry the suitcase with it. Carry 2 now, both with the capability, never ever took a pic with one yet, never bothered to figure out how. If I want to take a pic, I use a camera. Old fashioned, I guess.

The scary part is the stuff hidden that you don't know. I would never have thought that there was any hidden data. I wonder how wide spread this is?

There are many programs available that will completely erase all data from digital pics. The one I use is here.

Quick Photo Resizer - Resize your digital photos and JPEG images

Not only can it resize pics in the 3 most popular resolutions, it can also add a watermark of your choice. Whats really nice is it brings the byte size way down too, without sacrificing quality, which uses much less bandwidth too.

Does Not Surprise Me!

I am overly paranoid as well. Since joining this board I am getting less then I come across a thread like this. This place is a wealth of knowledge. HGI

Great little piece o' software. I am test-driving it and it also makes a more compressed file as well just like they say, the logo placement is a nice touch/easy to use. Drag and drop.
