Activated carbon sources?

Where can I find larger quantities of activated carbon? The local pet shops carry the one or two pound boxes and I found one aquarium store that sells it by the pound, but it very expensive.

Suggestions?

Ok, we checked out the activated carbon on ebay and it looks like a great deal. We're getting close to needing some and I was just about to buy it on ebay when the boyfriend says, "You're going to buy it online!?"

He's afraid to do too much purchasing online, which I somewhat understand...anyways we'll be looking locally now. The local aquarium stores charge waay too much and walmart only has small quantities. We live in a very large city so I'm sure someone here sells it. I'm just not sure where to look. What type of businesses would sell this stuff, other then aquarium stores?

I've heard they sell it a brew supply stores... for making beer.
I use Silica Kitty litter in my scrubbers... cheap and i can get it at walmart...

hmmm....never heard of using silica before. Does it work as well as a carbon scrubber?
