This shit brings me down but I feel like I should do what I can. This is off the NORML website for Maryland:

Possession
Any amount misdemeanor 1 year $1,000
Sale or Cultivation
Less than 50 lbs felony 5 years $15,000

Possession or use of any amount of marijuana is punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Cultivation, delivery or sale of less than 50 pounds of marijuana is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. For 50 pounds or more, the penalties increase to a five-year mandatory minimum sentence and a fine of up to $100,000.

Possession, use or sale of paraphernalia is a criminal fine of $500 for the first offense. For a second or subsequent offense, the penalties increase to a term of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000.

Mandatory minimum sentence: When someone is convicted of an offense punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence, the judge must sentence the defendant to the mandatory minimum sentence or to a higher sentence. The judge has no power to sentence the defendant to less time than the mandatory minimum. A prisoner serving an MMS for a federal offense and for most state offenses will not be eligible for parole. Even peaceful marijuana smokers sentenced to "life MMS" must serve a life sentence with no chance of parole.

She just called me reading the penaltys:

15000 dollar fine and five years in prison.

Her bail is 25000 dollars
Right now i have to pay 2500 dollars. This is unbelieavble....

How am i going to get the rest of that money? Im going to be in debt for life.

And i still dont know whats going to happen to her....

If her bail is $25,000. A bail bondsmen......(ex. Patricia Childs (MD) Toll Free 1-800-624-4404) only makes you pay 10%, so $2,500. You will not have to pay the rest of the $25,000 unless your girlfriend doesn't show up for court.

Handle the rest of the fines and penalties with your attorney.

Don't panic. Your lives are not ruined. Also do NOT turn yourself in.

Yes it sucks.

MJ does not mess with your life, the insane laws do.

Most important is an "attack dog" lawyer. You may end up not paying a thing!

Some cops will try to scare her, making things sound worse than they are. Tell her:

1) Don't listen to them
2) Don't talk to them.

Even saying something like "I smoke it myself" could be incriminating.

ahh i understand now. i feel much better not having to pay that.

But funknug i appreciate ur help so much but this is her second offense, her first time happened a month prior, she got caught with 4 or 5 grams, we still havnt gone to her court for that.. Ur sure shell be ok? I dont want her to go away to jail.

I appreciate all help in easing my pain i feel a little better now.

Brother I'm nearly a million dollars in debt. I have to pay nearly that every month. I owe the IRS more than that in back taxes. I'd happily trade places with you on that point
