I think the hardest part about becoming a doctor with a felony is finding someone to hire you. I searched on the net and some states won't let you take the exams necessary to become a medical doc with certain felonys. Is a MJ felony one of those? I don't know. I just know that when i signed a lease for my apartment they asked if i had a felony. Even a McDonalds application asks if you are a felon, and its illegal to lie. I know in Cali that they say you don't have to include MJ misdeminor convictions, but a felony i am pretty sure must be disclosed. Felonies are crazy, they strip your basic citizenship rights. its kinda fuct that they can do that just for some MJ. Can't vote, can't buy a gun, can't get a passport which means you can't even flee to Canada unless you smuggle yourself in. I am pretty sure(not positive) that the borders are now closed and you need a passport even for Canada.

Nope, i been to Canada a couple of times in the last few years,,, no passport necessary!

Do you need one to go to Mexico? I think not!

However ive herd that Canada wont let an american felon even for a quick vacation so????

I thought the law was already in effect. It starts June 2009. you will need one then. i just knew the law passed, didn't know when it went into effect
I also have been to canada and mexico countless times and never needed one, but all that is changing.
I just remembered when i could goto the bahamas without one, when i went last time, i did need one.

I’m going to reiterate the advice that has already been given, get a very good attorney that is experienced in these matters. Get the best attorney you can afford. I certainly wouldn’t under any circumstances let this go to trial. Hopefully they will offer her a decent deal.

I would try to calm down and not worry but I’d be lying to you if I said this isn’t a big deal. It’s my opinion that it would take a very good attorney, a sympathetic jury and a lot of luck to get a jury to believe that this herb was for personal use. The reason I say that is because you would have an extremely difficult time convincing even me it was for personal use.

Would you want a doctor who has a felony...I wouldnt care but most of the U.S. wouldnt want someone who has had drug charges....we as smokers know its safer than alcohol but Judges and the rest of the world just look at Mj as a illegal drug. Even if this girl gets probation it will still be on her record.... Im really sorry bro but this system will fuck ya in a heartbeat... Good Luck .. Serenity ......................... Fuck the system

I have some limited experience in the criminal justice system (no...on the defense side...not the prosecution). I know it's been said and I haven't had enough time to read the entire thread BUT...Crazytrain's advice is spot on. You NEED a lawyer. A criminal lawyer. Your girlfriend may, unfortunately, need her own lawyer but that's for you two to decide. It may all go away but you are going to need an attorney to advise you right now and to do whatever is necessary to staunch the hemorrhage. It's a drag. Maybe you can get someone from NORML. This should not be happening in this day and age but fuck it...the barbarians are still in charge of the place and you need a good criminal attorney to help steer the ship right now. In the meantime...DO NOT SAY ANYTHING to the cops. Repeat. DO NOT SAY ANYTHING without legal counsel.
