Little Lady

I have read a few threads here and noticed my personal experience may have circumstances that some of you (hopefully never) may have to deal with one day. I was very fortunate although I have studied some law back in my college days so maybe one of you might gain some knowledge to benefit from my bad experiences.

A few years ago
I had been growing for a couple years (all for personal use) on and off usually would grow enough to not have to grow for 6-8 months. I was very cautious because I was renting an apartment but had been growing there for over 2 years so I was not expecting anything to go wrong. The apt had neighbors only on one side,(I was on the end) an outside entrance, no one above or below me similar to a townhouse. My setup was very concealed in a closet only 800 watts, very noise/light proof, had a carbon scrubber, an ion generater, low traffic, I thought all my bases were covered.

I was working one day (I travel about a 400 mile radius for work) and got a call from my neighbor, I was about 250 miles away and about a mile away from the canadian border. She informed me that there were PD going in and out of my apt and she was worried something happened to me. She had no idea that I was growing although we did smoke together occasionally, and she had given them my cell #! Within minutes the PD were calling....

My mind was racing I most likely could have skipped the border but I didnt I called them back acting as if I was surprised. They had the landlord call me and informed me there was a problem at my apt and they wanted me to let them in. Landlord never told me police were there or they had already been ramsacking my apt. I agreed and started the trip home. (longest drive I had ever had) Of course as soon as I pulled into the complex PD was blocking any exits and I drove through the complex to my apt. When I pulled up I approached an officer told them who I was and he just asked me if I knew what was going on. I asked if we could do this somewhere else to protect my identity he agreed and I got in the back of his car he pulled to the otherside of the building.

Here's the crazy shit-
My neighbors hot water heater broke and flooded her apt and water got into mine. The landlord came to get it cleaned up and "noticed something unusual" and called the PD. They of course got a warrant and got everything, but because I had torn the labels off my nutes (GH grow,bloom,mirco) they called in the chemical team (thinking it was i guess a meth lab?) There was people in white body suits gathering all my 'chemicals' and three news stations reporting my small grow.

I was not even noticed when i got into the police car, and after about a half hour he took me to the station. They put me into a questioning room and left me there for around an hour (seemed like days) then came in and asked me to tell them why I was there and to write everything down. I played their game for 10 minutes not admitting to anything then asked for a lawyer. They tried explaining to me a lawyer would do me no good and they had me but I insisted on a lawyer within 10 minutes they asked me to come with them and they just TOOK ME BACK TO MY APT. I couldnt beleive it I asked what was next and they just told me that they were going to gather all the evidence and I had to go to court the following week.

I was caught with 4 females about 6 weeks into flowering, about 5 clones, and a bag of over a couple pounds, not to mention pipes and you know all the grow room goodies.

I got a very expensive lawyer and because it was my first offense I got a delayed sentence probation for 12 months and if i was 'good' it would be off my record. 10 months of clean pissing and I was DONE!

I was cooperative with the PD and never freaked, I was honest but never admitted to anything and most importantly I ASKED FOR A LAWYER and everything worked out.

It doesnt matter how careful you are you can find yourself in a situation like this but just stop and breath think everything through do not admit or incriminate yourself. It sucks but it happens it is what it is, it is easy to turn a bad thing into a terrible thing. I never spent a day in jail or had handcuffs on although I did pay plenty of $ in fees and lawyer cost. MONEY WELL SPENT IN MY EYES!

Ya know it feels really good to tell someone all that crazy shit because I have never really told any one about it, my siblings and parents have no idea

The only one who knows is my significant other but he was around when it all went down

You know, this sounds just a tad judgmental. Given your current legal situation I'm not sure I'd be judging her too much.

Lady, thanks for the story. A lot of us have had our run ins over the years. Hopefully we learn and move on. I gotta say though. 2 pounds? For personal use? Sounds like me!

And given that you've probably never been busted you have no right being so arrogant. Probably most of that two pounds was leaf, trim, unsmokable stuff. You know how they count everything.

Thanks for sharing your story. It's unfortunate and horrifying but you did everything right. It's also illustrative of how to handle such a scary situation. When I worked criminal law, I used to write it out...longhand..."I want to speak to my lawyer." Of course, many of my clients were...um...too stooopid and felt like they could handle the cops themselves. They were the ones who got burned - generally quite badly. After working in the legal system for quite a while, I'm not terribly enamored by said system but, man, the right lawyer in a bad spot can save folks a world of hurt, even if they have to put some money down.

Oh if only that were the case. (never being busted) Arrogant? For agreeing with her? You know, hence the wink wink, nod nod, smile smile? Don't know how you got that but it certainly wasn't intended. I know exactly where she's coming from all too well. That's why I thanked her and was trying to make light of the situation. (Nudge nudge, no what I mean, no what I mean....insert Monty Python here. ....some times emoticons don't cut it I guess.)

I've done more than my share of time, and been busted more times that I care to remember. However not in the last 25 years or so. At some point it's good to learn from your mistakes.
