aka you have the right to remain silent. ok, theres been a small influx of threads that have discussions of the poster or posters getting busted for one thing or another. now, i dont know all the details of each case, but one thing i know for sure, that is the best advice i or any good attorney will tell you, and that is to immediately tell the cops that you will not be speaking to them because you are going to use the 5th amendment, and that any questioning or searching can be done in the presence of your attorney. i watched a couple really good videos that are on google, on this subject. the cops are trained to lie to do their jobs, because it is their word against yours. they will try all kinds of things to get you to talk. they will rattle your cage, so to speak. no matter how good of a talker you think you are, do not, ever, try to talk your way out of being arrested, ever, got it? i believe the only questions you are legally bound to answer are: your legal birth name and birth date/place (this just confirms your ID) your place of residence your occupation do not answer any other questions, do not offer any other information. a good question to ask is "am i free to go?" if its anything else other then "no" you are free to go. you can be "detained for questioning" but only for so long. here is the video, part one: "Don't Talk to the Police" by Professor James Duane be sure to watch part two: "Don't Talk to the Police" by Officer George Bruch

| Great videos booty  One more thing I'd like to add.DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR FOR THE POLICE. I repeat: You are not required to open your door for the police. The fact that they are knocking means they DO NOT have a warrant. Nor do they have enough information to get one... If they had a warrant they wouldn't be knocking, they would be busting your door down. If you open the door they are going to trick you into saying something that will waive your rights and let them in the door, or get them a warrant. Then you will have big problems. DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR! If its unlocked. Go ahead and Lock it. You are not required to open the door.

| Lets say that you do open your door and it stinks like MJ smoke or even fresh MJ is that probable cause for them to enter your residence right after your door is open? Or can u per say open it step out, close it and talk to them? Or is it best to just play deaf and dont answer the door and hope they dont come back? | ||

| True. I'm no lawyer... Probable cause probably depends on what state you live in... I've no clue. But i do know you shouldnt open the door

| I was just joking but I have always wondered what would happen if cops are knocking on your door and you just stand there, with it closed, looking at them (provided they can see you too).
