![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Whoa what have I been missing! I have an assorted variety of everything from shotgun to rifle to pistol to bows etc... But I am an outdoors enthusiast! Only thing that stays loaded though is a S&W 9mm in the nightstand, along side a l.e.d mag light for darkness, plus extra loaded clips for a shootout LOL. Any real pistol shooter knows you just cant put point the gun around the corner and hit your target. You need those extra clips ![]() I am looking to get a new piece soon though since 9mm is the highest caliber pistol I own. Was thinking I REALLY want a .40, most likely a glock b/c I love shooting them. Maybe a Beretta. Any suggestions?? A .45 is just overkill in my book. I am not trying to shoot through wall after wall after wall taking out anything in the bullets path.

over penetrate {a wall, your target, anything} is the 9mm. it has the least mass and the most velocity. the 9mm was designed as a clean exit weapon. it mames, not kills. modern hollowpoint ammo has helped this alot. but they are still poo. the 9 was designed at a time when assault rifles were becoming wildly effective. the thought process of a medium caliber high velocity pistol being as effective as teh rifles was too much to pass up. unfortunately they quickly realized a few key things... that combo is effective in a rifle because the velocity is MUCH higher than a pistol will ever achieve. a rifle is used to fight at a distance, aimed from the shoulder. immediately stopping the target isnt so much of a concern. there eventual bleeding out and death is good enough. the gain in accuracy realized from this combo makes the rifle extremely lethal low recoil weapon. lightweight, fast on target fast follow up shot. accuracy with a pistol doesnt matter. you can hit a guy 7 yards away from you with ANYTHING. and absolutely no aiming. point and shoot. they realized in the trenches, where pistol combat occurs the small caliber lacked the stopping power.... what is stopping power? good question. any gun can kill. from a 22 to a 50bmg. however you plug someone in the chest with a 22 you are not stopping there forward momentum. they are wounded, maybe even critically. but they can still fight or fire there weapon for quite some time before eventually bleeding out. a 45 is the other end of the spectrum. the bullet is very large, and very slow. it has a ton of kinetic energy. its the difference of being hit in the chest with a tennis ball vs a bowling ball. lay on the ground and drop the bowling ball on your chest. now do the same thing but have the tennis ball thrown as hard as they can.... the bowling ball still does WAY more damage. if an attacker is moving towards you, and you get off a good squeeze or two to the torso they are done. no more attacking. no more moving. just laying there completely incapacitated. even if they are alive, they cant function. they body is all but shut down from the trauma. the bowling ball effect. 45 ball ammo is the least effective. cor bon makes great home defense rounds. the 40 is a pretty good middle ground. the bullet is a little heavier than the 9, its not a whole lot slower. if you would like to calculate muzzle energy look at the IPSC rules about what load you can run in your gun. you have to meet a certain power factor to compete {other wise people would load rounds with little/no recoil and stomp ass} the 40 however is a bitched down version of the 10mm. in my eyes the 10mm is the gold standard of all that is pistol defense. the 10 was designed because the 45 chassis was dated, too large for many female agents and officers. also its a low capacity frame. firepower is limited to about 7 shots. the 10mm is truly a sick round. however its recoil was hard to manage by the police and feds. mainly ladies and small framed men {pussies} rumors about cartridge failure, jams, blowups were all started because these weak wristed shooters could not qualify dept standards with this hard hitting round. the 40 is a 10mm case that was shortened a 1/10th of an inch and switched from a large pistol primer to small pistol primer {less energy} primers DO affect overall cartridge performance/bullet speed. 40 and 10 both use the same size projectile... however the "federal" load for 40cal is 180gr. 10mm uses a 200grain. the "federal" load {fed as in govt, not the ammo company} is spot on. if you load your own this is all you need. 200gr bullet, some tite group powder and you are on your way to success. long story short. a 9mm will NOT stop going through dry wall, or a shower door. theres plenty of innocent loss of life from 9mm with no name on them. as far as extra mags. this aint the movies. i highly doubt a shootout will involve a reload. only cops have that luxury..because they are cowards tackin off rounds from wwaaayyy too far away, and rarely, if ever hit there target. when someone runs up on you in your house there are only 2 types of people the quick, and the dead. and remember always hold your light in your off hand, rest your firing wrist on top of your light hand. this way your hands are still locked, the gun is stable for a quick secodn shot and more importantly wherever the light points the gun points. learning to shoot with both eyes open - if you guys have places to shoot freely the best thing you can do to train yourself is this. holster your weapon. toss a wooden block on teh ground {i cut 4" sections off 4" fence posts} close your eyes, toss teh block. open your eyes as soon as you see the block draw and fire without ever bringing the gun above belly level. the draw is a little weird at this height..but you will learn. you are drawing more back than up. repeat... eventually you will get to teh point where you can play kick the can with the block. no real aiming. just point of aim shooting. shoot the block, it flies up, when it lands shoot it again. jsut holding the gun out... dotn site in. keep your eyes on teh block not on the weapon. once you can hit the block conistently 9out of 10 times id say you are on your way to safely defending yourself in your home. most people with guns in there house are lessening there security. not increasing it. be smart, educate yourself on technique and tactic. practice practice practice. always be safe. on a side note, the glock 20 is 10mm medium/full size gun. same chassis as the 45 version g-21. the glock 29 subcompact in 10mm is my personal fav. i shoot one with a dr. optic rear holo site. allows you to shoot both eyes open. which once you learn it is key!! thats what the block trick is all about. learning to shoot with both eyes open. when you close one eye point of aim shifts considerably. my rear site has had the same battery for uhh... 6 years or so? still going strong. it never gets turned off. the g-29 {non compensated} model i can 8 out of 10 times double tap a steel popper at 50yds. the first shot always hit, sometimes i get muzzle flinch and balk the second shot. high and right everytime. oh yeah my for real for real last comment. always shoot your gun a couple times with no hearing protection. just to know what to expect. believe me, outside it will be alot nicer on you then firing that bitch off in the hallway. NEVER get a compensated {ported} gun for self defense. they cause night blindness from the flash, they are loud as all hell AND tiny pieces of jacket will get shaved off by the porting and fly up in your face. these guns are NOT safe to shoot without eye protection... in self defense you never have your eyes and ears on. i use my 45 for home D because i can tolerate its sound without hearing protection. my 9 is way too loud. WAY too loud. since almost every pistol smaller than 45 has a bullet that flies faster than the speed of sound, you have that sonic crack to contend with, not just the noise of the gun. thats why 45's sound like cannons and 9's sound like...well they sound like guns. the very sharp ballistic crack of supersonic ammo to me is intolerable. this is why personal defense weapons are always 45 and 12gauge. 10mm is my fun gun, and outside the house aka concealed carry piece. i can shoot the 10 in a field without pain. the 9 and 40 make my ears bleed no matter where im at. even though this clip is total b.s. a hollow point that doesnt expand actually is terribly dangerous. hollow points dont expand to shred organs, they do so to increase there size and impart there energy to the target. if it dont expand its not transfering its energy to the target. that means the 7 yr old kid sitting in his living room across the street from the crack head that the cops just shot is now on the loving end of a stray. i cant stand for anyone to make light of guns, ever. they are serious shit. | |||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't think a .45 is overkill at all. A .45 doesn't have much range, which is perfect inside the house. It also makes a nice big bang, which scares the bejeezus out of anyone being shot at. Also, one round center mass will put your perp DOWN, and they will not be able to shoot at you. One round in the shoulder will spin him around and drop him to the ground, rendering the affected arm useless. Whereas a 9mm will go through the perp and not cause as much damage, a .45 will leave a nice big hole going in and an even bigger hole upon exit.
