what size scrubber to conceal odor 100%
permalink

after reading the long debate on ozone gen vs scrubbers i have a question:

i realize trial and error is often the answer to figuring out how large a scrubber you need but if you were planning ahead..................

how to determine what size scrubber you need (not DIY) and what size fan to put on it

example
sog 100 plants 4x8 eb nflow tray in an 8x8x8 room -- sealed -- no venting

scrubber recirculating

100% odor control - as if the neighbors lived on your head and they owned a pot sniffing dog LOL

i guess this might belong in construction - but it is a security issue

just buy the biggest mofo they sell. can 125. size fan doesnt really matter, you arent venting. but the more times you recirculate the air the better.

a carbon scrubber/fan combo with a true cfm rating of 550 will clean all teh air in your room once a minute.

so im gonna say a can 100 filter with 8 or 10" fan should do it. i believe that filter to max out at 840 cfm of clean air with a can max-fan on top of it.

does having the air pass through the scrubber 2 fast reduce the removal of the odor?

Yes. If its exhausting, most definetly. But not necessarily if your using it recirculating in the room alone.

as long as you get a scrubber with exhaust CFM ratings equal to or below that of your fan you will have 100% odor control. As soon as you exceed those ratings I would be skeptical.

Just as important however; Is ensuring you have negative pressure on your growroom. Meaning all your fans exhaust into a scrubber, no active intakes, only passive ones. This ensures you have no smell leaking out any cracks, doors, etc.

If you have a sealed co2 room there is no way to have 100% odor control with carbon alone...
But if you seal all the cracks and have a seriously big scrubber in there you could get 98% of it. The major problem lies when opening the door. I keep a bucket of ona gel outside, next to the door of my sealed co2 grow. and the carbon scrubber right next to the door on the inside. I also ozonate my air conditioning exhaust ducts.

hi GD

could you elaborate a bit more on the sealed room issue

why cant i get 100% with sealed room

in my mind i thought there would be equal pressure since no air exchange

what else would you recommend - small ozone gen to pick up the slack

worried about ozone hazard in sealed room - dont want to exhuast at all - to prevent heat signature

what about a switch outside room to manually turn on fan/scrubber to exhuast for 3 min. just b4 entering?

opening the door wafts out odors. Kill those and your 100% fine, as long as your room is sealed tight. Ozonate only when you open the door. Or open a bucket of ONA.. Your final idea would work too. fire up some scrubbed neg. pressure on the room b4 you open the door. or even another carbon scrubber outside the door.

venting isnt the only way you get popped for heat signature.

if your grow is in a room with an exterior wall, that entire wall will glow like no other on the FLIR. {given you have the wattage}
