But do live in a MJ medical defense state. This state has not legalized medical mj but has left the medical defense open. I have a really bad back and neck with MRI pics (that I will take to the doc) of bulging discs. It hurts to sit for a long time, read for more than 10 minutes in one position, and sleeping is very uncomfortable. I don't like taking pain killers because they mess with me more than smoking a bit of MJ which makes things bearable.

The first medical mj case in this state was won, after-the-fact(arrest), partially because the attorney argued that CA docs have more experience with MJ than the docs over here and their recommendation should have more bearing because of said experience.

I have a friend that I will be visiting in LA and wanted to know if anyone knows of any places in the LA area that would write a recommendation for MJ in my type of scenario?

short answer yes. long answer you wouldn't be able to get any not living in ca if your being prosecuted then the script might help but you had to brake the law to obtain it. if you go to a doc specializing in green cards they wont see you not being a resident of the state, hope this helps

they required that I had an in-state ID last time I attempted to get a card in CA, You may be able to get a doctor recommendation but I doubt you'll be able to get into any clubs.

I think they photocopied my driver's license when I got my prescription, I imagine that if you called around you could find a doctor who was willing to write a prescription for you. You might get dragged over the coals (as far as money goes) since the doctor might be subpoenaed to your home state.

I brought in medical records that proved I had been diagnosed with the various aliments I was using to get my prescription, I also brought in the pill bottles (without the pills) of the medications (habit forming and bad for you) I was hoping to replace with MMJ. After filling out the self-reporting form the doctor didn't even look at the rest of my evidence, you have more then enough to qualify for a California prescription.

Thanks everyone. I'm not worried about getting any while there and I don't expect a written perscription because I don't live in the state. All I want is a recommendation stating that it would be more effective and less harmful to have some mj instead of pain killers (and I think that has been proven...the less harmful part).

Josh, I don't know how going to see a doctor and getting a recommendation is breaking the law. Homegrown with seeds that were found or given to me years ago is what I will tell them. I won't be buying off the street so I won't be supporting terrorism

if you get a CA recommendation, it is good in CA only. it is possible to do this, and still live in another mj state, however you will not be able to use the recommendation in your state of residence, other then CA.

The CA recommendation was used as part of the affirmative defense in this state when they won the first case. They used CA's established law to show that doctors over in CA have more experience with mj and its uses. This argument was part of the reason they won.

the bud in question would be illegal in your state not the doctors note. how close do you live to cali? you must be in az. hope this clears it up for you.

I understand the bud is illegal, hence the affirmative defense and going through all this ahead of time. I live in the same state that this story happened in which is why I feel like I can use it as precident. I just don't want to scramble to get all my ducks in order after-the-fact (god forbid) because other than the extra stress, I'm sure there is a premium to having a lawyer do the legwork.
