How do I reduce the noise or sound-proof the room so that it doesn't sound like I have a motor running constantly in the next room over? The thing is a lot louder than I expected and I'm questioning whether or not I should even use it because my neighbours next door down will definately hear it as it is.

I have a couple fans mounted in my door. for that, i used thick a/c insulation. for example, if i had 4" can fan, i would drill a 6" hole wrapping the insulation around the fan. This works great. You can also put fans on a speed controller. Search for these DIY posts.
