How do I reduce the noise or sound-proof the room so that it doesn't sound like I have a motor running constantly in the next room over? The thing is a lot louder than I expected and I'm questioning whether or not I should even use it because my neighbours next door down will definately hear it as it is.

First off, good choice in music....RATMSOAD

second....it's all in your mounting. use bungee cords or something like that. I have a couple fans mounted in my door. for that, i used thick a/c insulation. for example, if i had 4" can fan, i would drill a 6" hole wrapping the insulation around the fan. This works great. You can also put fans on a speed controller. Search for these DIY posts.
