![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if you do your venting right you won't need any AC at all until the late summer months where ambient is already above 80F...You will def. see a huge decrease in power usage with venting, like I said unless you are trying to keep the room below 70F with ambients above 80F, the AC will hardly run as long as you air cool your light and have good FEA. Even the small 5000BTU (enough for 1kW light) AC units use at least 700w, compared to a 250CFM fan using 100w.

![]() i dont see why people dont just vent into the attic or into the garage. these rooms are already pretty freaking hot, and the house is well insulated against them.... on flir a hot vent stands out like a big red button...."press here to fuck up someones life" if you are spreading the hot air around in a large area and letting it slowly work its way out through gable vents and the likes i imagine that would look much more normal on a flir scan. you can find plenty of flir scans of busted grows on the web, you cant find any flir failure to detect scans.... of course. they dont want you knowin about that.

![]() | There's this stuff called Polyshield that looks like a huge roll of cellophane and blocks IR (flIR), I think that's what it's called but I saw it in a hightimes from like 07. Poly Shield - Polyshield Thermal Imaging Defense

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | my vote goes toward AC being safer than venting directly outside... In some situations AC uses the same amount of power as venting..... Either way your power bill is gonna be high, so you might as well elminate the vents if possible. Either by heating the house or using AC or a combo of both. I'm switching over to split system AC myself because my vents are sketching me the fuck out. On a cold day I can see the waves of heat coming out with the naked eye can only immagine what it'd look like on ir camera ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re that reflective stuff, heat has to go somewhere, it's basic physics, so I can't see them being any use. They might slow down the heat transfer when the lights come on at first, but eventually they will warm to whatever your room temps are.

If you already have the ac pumping out mass quantites keep it as the only heat source It's normal for it to pump heat..[I know...duh] why would you want a 2nd hot spot if you are worried about flir pump all your heat out the one thing you can't get rid of...and everybody on the block has [least where I live] you have a valid reason for running the ac....use it ![]()

The risk from a random FLIR cm is over rated. It's like getting hit by lightning from a thunderstorm on Jupiter. They FLIR you when they already know you have something going on. BTW - 6000w is not a medium sized grow ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Something to consider....If your using a window unit, or even a split system with condenser outside, you will get some attention for having it running in the cooler months. On the other hand, if your thinking "Haha, but I'm using a portable one inside, stealth power!"..........your still going to have the vent pipe going outside, just like any other hot air vent that you would have with active ventilation..... So when you think about it, running your AC in the winter is NOT something everyone on the block will be doing....BUT everyone WILL be running there clothes dryers...which is what your ventilation exhaust would look like on FLIR...bigger heat signature than dryer yes I know, but still much less suspicious than a heat signature coming from a AC condenser in December!
