How to sanitize images before placing online
permalink

I'm wondering if anyone knows what software applications (specific names please) will remove information stored in digital images? I realize this may be a bit paranoid but I want to sanitize my images that depict subjects of an illegal nature before I put them online.

Thanks in advance!

I resize my pics using IrfanView - it strips certain data form the pics. It is free software.

So are you folks stripping info before you send them in to GC to host? Is that necessary? I've just been pulling them off my photobucket account, loading them here and then deleting them from photobucket. Should I do it differently?

Thanks!

edit to add--I'm using a Mac, if that matters.

After using IrFanview, I still have to Jstrip my pictures using jstrip. I don't know if I'm using an older version or if I'm not doing the process correctly--but even after I resize w/Irfanview I still have strippable exif data...

Danger Will Robinson!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have many IT friends and they taught me a few things on how to be secure on the internet. I didn't even post anything durring my active years because of what they taught me. Well, when I descided to finally start posting my knowledge here, I followed their advice using dummy I.P. addresses and email to see who ends up using technology to find me and guess what?

Three of the four websites (including this one!) that I've posted on tried to find out who I am through tracing my I.P. address. That can only mean a few things. Either the Administrators of these websites are trying to find out who I am or the Federal Government are using these websites to locate growers. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Anyways my friends are tracing the I.P. addresses that tried finding me and when I find out who they are I will post their names (if it's not the Government) because what the hell are you trying to find me for NARCS? And if it's the government then they can kiss my ass. I'm one of the good guys.

Notice to all users of these sites, rules of engagement; #1 DO NOT POST DIGITAL PICTURES DIRECTLY FROM YOUR HOME COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to post this on all of the sites I've used, if the administrators take it off then you know they are a dummy front trying to lure you into posting.

Sharing information or knowledge via the use of photography is not illegal! That said...

Posting a picture on a forum does not necessarily make it yours...but it sure looks like it is! Also, once it is posted...chances are it has been copied somewhere...so deleting old posts at this point because you read this post would probably not help!

Don't you hate the way technology ends up biting humans in the ass?! Argh!

Bender's Tip: Use an unprotected WiFi connection and state the following at trial..."With all the mobile wifi devices out there...ANYONE could have used my IP address to post a picture!" Lol! Otherwise, hit the local library!
