No, I'm not. And yeah, this was for underground growers, but if any legal folks got something, post away!

My wife is ready for us to move to an MJ-friendly state, at least when she's stoned!

Thanks for all answers so far! More appreciated, if you feel like it.

I think the part about e-mailing them the "Evidence" that you no longer grow is only going to make them more suspicious

Several years ago my best friend put together a very successful outdoor guerrilla grow. He told only me, and I never saw the plants until I helped him go and chop them, each plant separate and well hidden. This is a little different than a typical indoor grow because the plants were on state land so he had the protection of my personal favorite legal term "Plausible Deniability"... I was more at risk loading my Pathfinder to capacity w/stinky–a** weed and taking it across town for him.

I have just started growing, about a week till my first havest... and I do catch myself about to make reference to my growing issues in conversation. Let's face it, growing can take up a large part of your life... it is natural to want to have someone to discuss problems/successes with. That is what brings us here is it not?

I have told my brother, who lives in another state... and my best friend (different guy), who also lives in a different state, but will be living with me soon, so he'd know eventually. I will tell no one else, I have already started the story of "this guy I know" who is growing... Which is feasible because no one (except my BF) knows where i get my smoke now.

I'll shut up now

Does absolutely No One (besides people you live with) know you grow?

No. Er, yes. Nobody knows I grow except Mrs. Intro. And that should read 'we grow' because she does a lot to help out despite her black thumb.

Emphasis on 'knows' because there's a guy I play softball with in the summer and occasionally meet for a couple of beers during the winter. Based on purely hypothetical discussions about marijuana, along the lines of "wouldn't it be great if it was legal and we could grow our own?", I'm pretty sure he grows and I strongly suspect he thinks I grow. And I think we both realize we're better off not knowing for sure about the others' activities and confining our conversation to line drives and the city council's latest bonehead move. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a member here... if so, hi Steve! (not his real name)

If so, how do you keep your good friends fooled?

My best friend – and the only person I would even think about telling – does not smoke, so the subject never comes up. With other friends, it's easy to slip in a story about getting this bag from a friend of friend's brother-in-law's guy he works with or something. Almost all the people I toke with are long time smokers, so they have their own ways of getting bud and don't press me to get them a connection.

I've never been put on the spot about it directly, but if someone asked me if I grew, I would say, "Even if I did, I sure wouldn't tell anybody about it." Anybody who would pursue the question beyond that is either stupid or rude. Time to switch subjects/conversations/location.

And do you feel bad about lying to your good friends?

No. As growers, we owe ourselves and those who live with us the best defense against discovery by LEO and all the cost, pain, and upset such discovery would entail. I believe lying is, in this case, a better moral choice than being completely honest with anybody with whom I'm sharing a smoke. I don't expect my friend to share their deepest, most potentially damaging secrets, who are they to expect that from me?

If anyone outside your home does know, how concerned do you get that your secret will get out to the wrong people?

I've had a bad experience with my information getting to the wrong person and it almost ended very badly. My landlord showed up at my house asking to see the basement after getting an anonymous call claiming I was growing in the house. I had taken everything down, thankfully, but someone who knew what they were looking for wouldn't be fooled. After I told her she was more than welcome to take a look ("Oh, it's real messy but nothing illegal, hahahaha!") she accepted my explanation about my ex-wife trying to stir shit and didn't bother to even come in the house.

I learned a very valuable lesson that day for bargain basement tuition.

It sounds like you realize you've made a mistake, reederx, and you're trying to quantify the risks you now face. Unfortunately, the cat's out of the bag and you have no control of where your information might end up. I don't mean to scare you, but I can think of at least three people I once thought were my best of friends, willing to kill or die for me if necessary. But all three betrayed me in one way or another and I shudder to think what would have happened if they knew I was growing.

Sorry for the novel... never know what's going to set me off on a Monday morning.

No problem with length of posts, this is what I wanted to hear, different experiences. I don't mind the warnings either, you are obviously looking out for me.

I'm not really worried, have been tight with these guys since childhood, and we are approaching 50. Jeez that's hard to write, makes me feel bloody ancient!

We've been thru a lot where betrayal was possible, it never happened. If we weren't such great friends, they wouldn't have played CSI on me and practically made me spill the beans.
Their stated motivation (and I have no reason to doubt them) was to make sure I was being secure; they don't want to see me locked up.
They know me well, including my younger tendency to be a fuck-up!

Discussion of my growing was a one-time thing. This was a few years back while we all were on a fishing trip, and they've asked me no questions since. Well, my very best friend did ask if I could bring "some of the good shit, new if you've got it" to his bachelor party. "Taken care of, dude" was all I had to say.

Until my last grow and present one, I've never kept the grow room going. I'd always grow a single crop then dismantle lights and vent, use the room for storage.

Even though I trust these guys as much as humanly possible, I know there is still some risk.
Do I wish it were otherwise? Sure.
Could I have kept the secret from them forever? Highly doubtful.

When all is said and done, I'm not worried. Those fellas are not gonna get me busted, Period.
If I thought they put me in danger, I would tear it down... and cry a lot.

Wow. I gotta admit I was waaaayyy off on an assumption I made: I put your age in mid/late 20s, based on the importance and trust you placed in your friends. And that colored a lot of the advice I was trying to get across.

You're absolutely right. If these guys were going to screw you over, the knife would've been in your back decades ago. Sounds like they already knew you were growing and just wanted to hear it from your mouth to make sure you were taking all the proper precautions... after all, if you're sent up the river, who's going to complete their golf foursome? (or poker game/garage band/sewing circle... you get what I mean)

Even the golden rule has exceptions and you just might have found one. Not to mention the great wealth of friendship you must enjoy, with three long, deep friendships like that... I must be running with the wrong crowd.
