Coming from a legal grower's standpoint --

Last grow I lived with a few friends, out in the sticks but we still had some folks passing through. It was just 6 plants in a closet so wasn't a big deal.. a fair amount of people knew I was growing at the time.. but very few had even visited my place let alone seen the grow itself. I wasn't babbling about it but if they were trustworthy enough to drive all the way out to my house and be hosted for dinner, I figured they wouldn't be interested in ripping me off. Plus our neighborhood was very aware of outsiders and pretty damn safe. A small closet grow isn't a big deal in my area because of the sheer number of growers around here.

That all being said, however, it's a far different story when you live closer to town and/or have a larger grow op. Biggest risk is being ripped off when you have a legal grow, of course. I've seen it happen before. Babbling mouths, social gathering, "showing off" the grow. Foolish stuff.

I've always been somewhat of a hermit, and now that many of my friends have moved away and the fact that I'll be living even farther from town, it won't be difficult to be to keep it on lock down. Those I'm living with will be the only ones that know. And we're all pretty much hermits so it works out well. However since the next endeavor will be much larger, security will be a far more serious issue.

I notice 2 main points that others use to think you are growing. (wow, tortured syntax, but you get the idea)

1. Really, Really good bud, after a lifetime of "whatever is around"

2. fresh bud, not fully cured or only a month old, not a year old.

# 1 you can pass off w/ a lie or 2, or "i'm not gonna give up my connect, he made me promise, " etc.

#2, has anyone aside from Ganja Gardener tried the dry-ice method of drying? sez in the thread it works quick, and goes from just-chopped to cured in about 2 days. Nice way to 'fake' bag weed that is older than 2 days.

This is what tipped off friend #2 (the guy I've known for 20+ yrs.). The first few times I showed up with the Uberdank he didn't think much of it. I just gave him a story about how I met a grower at the last show I played & he hooked me up, no I couldn't introduce him, he's kind of paranoid about meeting new people . Now, I work with this guy and we both make about the same amount of $ & he knows my financial situation. So after about three weeks of me constantly having killer buds he started getting a little suspicious (maybe a lot suspicious). I tried another story about how the mythical growerman had hooked me up with a killer deal on some weight, my buddy wasn't really buying it though, think he just knows me too well. When I finally spilled it, he showed more concern for my safety and the security/secrecy of the grow. He hasn't asked about it since and is just happy to get smoked out & the occasional kickdown.

I'm planning on trying this with a bit of my next harvest just for shits & giggles, experimenting is fun.

Only two people know about my grow. My wife, she is the most paranoid person I know. She found out I was posting on GC and had pictures online she flipped out and threaten to go into the room and cut everything down. So I know she will never tell a soul. My brother is a career military man. He is a stand up guy with a very strong sense of loyalty and honor. Put it this way he's bled for me and I have for him, I have nothing to worry about from him.

I don't worry about friends. When I settled down I realized that I had a wife who comes first before them. Both of us work full time and what little time we have off we spend together. My boys understand this and respect it. They also know better then to ask about anything we bring when we meet up. That is how our click gets down.

If anyone did find out I would cut everything down. I couldn't put at risk my wife, home, or career. I'm about to finish my first grow and I'm really leaning on rebuilding the whole room. I'm going to ditch the aero and go to hempy in a cab. Less conspicuous when I don't have a tent taking up half a room and having the door locked at all times.

I had a friend find my closet one time (my story is on here). Even though we are friends and smoked a lot together, my stuff was torn down mid flower by the next morning. Made sure he saw the empty closet and I just told him paranoia got the best of me.

To keep friends guessing, you could buy a sack of ditch weed and bring it out from time to time so it looks like you have trouble getting good stuff. Nothing says "I don't grow" like a sack of ditch weed!

You say "these are top-notch friends", but to quote the movie Cocktail "If there were no bad breakups there would be no breakups at all".

I've had many "top-notch friends" go South on me. Basically because I loaned them money and I never heard from them again.

So in short you can trust them until you can't trust them. At that point you can count on any secret you have getting out.

i had a little bedroom grow goin on for bout a year. well my sink faucet broke so i asked my landlord [who lived right next door] to fix it . well he comes over while i'm at work and finds my 6 plants, aka trees and 2- 400 watters and he just tells me to get rid of'em. so my dumb ass lied and said i did.well another 3 months goes by then he comes over and tells me he heard i was still growing and demanded to see the bedroom. well by this time it's a forrest. he's got his telephone in hand ready to call the cops. so i'm thinkin i'm going to have to kill this fucker, luckily my girlfriend was standing right there so i run to the bed room and grabbed the buckets, plants and all begging this fucker to just give me a minute, i threw the buckets plants and all into the old ladys trunk and off we went. i got evicted in no time. they had to force me out during a real bad ice storm. i didn't know my rights. at the time. so i moved all my furnature into a storage unit so when the cops came they concidered me already moved out so i had to go. as it turns out the landlord took a bunch of pictures and tryed to get me busted. if he had called the cops i would of manufacturing and got like 5 years. he didn't give me no notice of his visit so the cops asked if i needed any help movin my mj growing supplies over to the storage unit. i told them no just give me a ride over to the civic center/ shelter 4 the dissaster at the time. i just wanted to share this experience. so know your rights don't ever tell any one. and grow on. i was very lucky.peace
