In responding to another thread elsewhere, it brought a long-standing question of mine to the surface. First my story, then a question or two. I never intended to break the "tell no one" golden rule of growing, but my close friends are not stupid. When I started showing up with good FRESH weed, they knew something was up, as I used to only ever get commercial schwag. They also knew I had repeated failed outdoor attempts when we were teens, so they knew I had growing ambitions. I tried to tell them I had just gotten a new connection, but I'm a bad liar  I really tried, only ever had small quantities on me, had a reasonable (I thought) story of where I bought it, how much I supposedly paid, etc. Didn't work, they saw thru me and I eventually spilled the secret. These are top-notch friends, and I gave them all (only 3 guys) the major lecture about my freedom being at stake if they blabbed. I don't think they have, but I can never be 100% sure. Only my very best friend has seen my grow, and that was because I needed him to water plants while I was out of town. Questions Does absolutely No One (besides people you live with) know you grow? If so, how do you keep your good friends fooled? And do you feel bad about lying to your good friends? If anyone outside your home does know, how concerned do you get that your secret will get out to the wrong people? I'm very interested in getting answers, so thanks in advance to all who respond!

and so i had someone aware i was underground during construction, i told my friend. Another friend was told because of close personal ties and my mate, because i smoke with him. I have fallen out with friends 1 and 2 on another matter, so have told them i no longer grow or smoke, and my mate has been banned from smoking by his missus. I am going to send them e mails with pics of my grow hole filled in, tell everybody i am now straight. I wish i had told no one, i do not think i have a problem, but better safe than sorry. lol nigel

| I managed to keep the charade up through my first harvest, after which 2 of my close friends figured it out. One of them is a former grower who doesn't grow now because he has youngins; the other I've known for 20+ yrs. and he's like my brother. I'm fairly confident I can trust them to keep the secret. Friend #1, having grown himself, knows of the implications of talking. Friend #2, I have quite a history with in which he's always shown himself to be a trustworthy, stand-up guy. Not to mention that they both know how "none too nice" I can get if called for. | ||

My place is a bit small, so no-one hangs out here anyway. If so, how do you keep your good friends fooled? I don't discuss growing, other than vegetables, which I've talked of for years and years. When people ask "what about weed?" I tell them" it's illegal, and no-way will I get prison time for growing ANYTHING. If they do it, great, but you remember so-and-so, got busted with a few plants? He's still in the damn joint, and I'll see him when he gets out, not meet him behind bars." And do you feel bad about lying to your good friends? No. If the lie is about my freedom, then too bad. I think there is a big difference between lying to keep part of your life private and lying to hurt them. I wouldn't lie about their lady having an affair, but I will lie to them on their / my deathbed about illegal activities. They don't, but I'm not all that worried- yes, I take precautions, and yes, I know the risks. The rest is fatalism- if I do all that I can to hide it, and get caught, well I guess if the thunder don't getcha then the lightening will.

| i used to tell my close friends, like the ones ive known since we were very young and had been smokin with for YEARS. They never told anyone and were always asking questions and wanted to see the ladies as they were curious to its stages of life...but latly ive changed that. Only one knows and thats because i need a hand time to time and he showed me a great spot outdoors a few years back so i know hes got my back and he lies to his and our close friends about me involved with anything. I have friends that grow and we talk MJ horticulture time to time but never talk about our ladies. I dont deal just grow for myself and to share with friends so i like to keep it as safe as possible. No point in letting someone slip their mouth and next thing i know i have a ripper or worse on my hands. | ||

| Granted, I'm just starting to get serious about growing, but no, no one knows. Couple years ago I had a very poor attempt at a grow and I showed a couple good friends. We all laughed about it, smoked it and got headaches and forgot about it. Keeping it all under the radar this time. | ||

| The only buddy of mine that knows whenever I grow is usually the one that tells me, "Dude, you should grow again". And thats because this crazy f'er and me have been buds since diapers. We think the same and yet are opposites. Gotta tell ya it keeps things interesting. Trust him with my life. But the best thing to do is avoid any suggestion of being a green grower. Even if all your buddies say they have you figured out and all that, deny as much as possible. The more heads that hear means theres more mouths to talk. Then again... It's always nice to have that one person you can always counts on, especially if you have to go out of town for an extended period. If anything, the only thing that comes to mind is for that one friend to definitely be someone you know would save your ass for you, and vice versa. My bud has proven that enough to matter, and vice versa.

I always keep my erbs in my dresser. Friends know Im not the type to let them go diggin around. They respect my stuff while over. And I always keep a small jar in the open with just a few grams in it. Pretending that half pound in my dresser isnt there. lol And do you feel bad about lying to your good friends? I feel bad because of the laws wich make me. I feel bad that I cant teach them how to do it without them questioning whether I do or not. I feel bad that I have to discuss it with people I'll most likely never meet and not people around me. If anyone outside your home does know, how concerned do you get that your secret will get out to the wrong people? If anyone found out, Id build a secret wall, or move.  I wont trust anyone with something like that. I figure nobody knows then its just one less thing Ill have to worry about. | ||
