Hi all, I just overheard the landlord talking of selling my multi-unit building. The landlord actually works for an agency that owns the building. The prospective owners are pros, they know it will take a while to complete the sale. They are currently reviewing leases, deciding who can stay. (legally they need a reason for eviction in my state, not just "i don't like you". The lease continues under new owners.) They are also reviewing apartments, but not necessarily all of them- there are only 3 different types in the building. They have already looked at some others. Now, the problem- my grow is in the closet. I can lock the door with a keyed lock, and stall them if they want to see the inside, but legally I cannot stop them if they are determined to get in. I can, however, stop them from getting into some big cabinets , not attached to the building. I don't have 'em yet, but I can buy some next week. However, this will mean losing some plants, as well as flowering NOW, to avoid the height issue. I only have 2 ballasts, so I'm limited to 2 cabs, or switch to cfl. My ballasts are dimmable, so I can do either 600 or 400 Watts. Id have to go 400 Watt- the cabs are about 2 X 3 X 6 feet high, tops. Now, a twist- I replaced the locks on the doors months ago, when I found the handyman had been going into my place to wash up after working on the furnace at night.. Bullshit!! Not happening with no permission. no-one has been in since. Not landlord or the handyman. They no longer have keys, and have not mentioned it. So, what do you recommend? 1)Not letting them into the closet, and if they insist, stall them for 1 day and destroy the grow? 90% chance they'll never want to see my apartment anyhow. If they do, I'll have to let them in (no keys!) and I'll stall on the closet if needed. Or, 2) cut the grow to about 4 plants total, and put 2 in each cabinet? I'll lose a lot of weight- the closet is big compared to the cabs. I'm looking at- but I'll save something, some harvest and a mother or 2. Or 3) , lose the grow all together, as a bad risk? No jail time possible for an empty closet and 2 ballasts in a dresser that they never see. Just looking for feedback , not legally binding advice. Feel free to sound off, it'll all be taken under advisement.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My advice takes both ends of the extreme and depends on how sure you are of the "90% chance they'll never want to see your apt." If it's that unlikely, then I'd just keep on keepin' on. Then, if they do want in, I'd stall long enough to ditch the whole thing. Better safe than sorry. They don't have keys, so you should be able to stall a day or two before they would get serious enough to hire a locksmith.

![]() If you are really sketchy, break everything down and put everything in boxes. For the short amount of time they will be going through your areas to look for any damage or what have you, your plants will be just fine.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, legally, since the closet is part of the building, they can inspect it. "Reasonable inspection" in my state means they can look, but if you have a closet full of boxes and stuff, they can't make you move everything unless there's a reason for looking at the floor or whatever- " i gotta get to the pipe, it's accessible from the rear of the closet" sort of thing. I'm leaning towards the box/ temporary Cab. idea....throw it all into cabs, got hiding spots for all but the plants already. I'm worried that the door key may come up- if so, I will have to give them a key to the apartment, and then they could look all they want while I'm at work. Maybe I'll have stand-by cabs, and move the plants if need be-- then if I have to give up a door key, I'll make the cabs permanent. Other tips/suggestions/ Brainstorms?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you have the original knob without the lock I would swap it for the duration they are in the apt. I personally went with boxes, plain cardboard ones. If you have very tall plants you can get a wardrobe box. They arent going to ask you what you have in a cardboard box...if they did that would be a bit weird and over the top IMO.

![]() | I would say prepare to move them into cabs so you can be ready if they come. I'd just make sure you can lock the cabs so there's no chance they'll look inside

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | g13aze, in my state, there is no 24 hr notice by law, but it is accepted as courtesy. The problem is, courtesy goes out the window with the suit-types that will be looking- these are people are in control of lots and lots of buildings, they have no time for waiting 24 hrs. I can hold them off, if i had too, it's just a pain. So far, I think I'll go with boxes, taped shut. luckily they don't smell much yet. Plus, I can stall on the key- that slumlord can't remember when my knob broke, and I gave him a key cos he never fixed it....."didn't you get the key? I gave it to the old handyman (deceased)....Maybe he just forgot, I'll have one for you tomorrow". He'll have to 'admit' to knowing the old handyman had it, or look like a fool for not having one. Then, when they leave with the key, I'll change it again!! ![]() ![]() The other stuff I can hide in about 10 minutes if I just throw it in a box. At night, when I work, I can keep it locked, my key is the only one to the apartment. Daytime, same thing, but I can pack up the grow while claiming I'm showering, just got up, work nights dontcha know. A little febreeze in the air and I should be set. I loathe not havingf my own house- but maybe this was good practice. What happens if an unexpected guest comes by? At least now I'll be ready. Thanks for the replies, if anyone else thinks of a better plan feel free to post it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My vote is on the temp cab. If the suit types are assholes (and they usually are ) they can come in if they wanted to since you said they are allowed to and 24 hr notices aren't required. The fact that your locks have been changed and they don't have a key not only probably violates some part of your lease, but may raise eyebrows with the suit types or your current landlord. It's not like you can just lock them out. The first step to an investigation is always suspicion. Be open and friendly, just hide your shit really well. And don't be afraid to kill it if things look bad. Having no weed for a couple of months sucks less than having no freedom for a couple of years. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Rent a Uhaul the day before the inspection. That night move your entire grow into the uhaul and let them inspect the following day. Afterwards move it back in. IMO I would never ever grow in an apartment.
