Greetings!

Looking at setting up a small area under the stairway w/ a 400W MH....

Questions is, how much do I have to insulate the area from odors - worried about them leaking through the walls to the living area. Any predictions on the security needed?

Cover the walls in plastic?
More? Less?

Thanks

Well I don't think the walls will be a major source of smell leakage. How are you going to exhaust that space? Wherever that air comes out is where you're going to have a smell issue...I'd put on a carbon scrubber.

If you don't plan to exhaust you're going to have heat issues. That will force you to leave the door open...hence additional smell issues.

It really varies by strain. I grew one strain that was so stinky I could smell it - with the door closed - in the garage which is on the opposite end, opposite corner of the house from the grow room.

Odor can & does permeate walls & plastic. A scrubber & a low odor strain will help.

extra carbon filters for safety. you should look into an air purifier as well. works just like a fan, except they normally have big carbon filters in them that you can flip a switch and have it pass through. my roommate tends to get allergy issues often, and has a few of these in our apartment. it really helps it smelling clean in there, especially about 10-15 minutes after we just smoked without opening a window.
you can get one at the store for less than $50 I would imagine
