I have just built one for odor control in my grow room. Let me tell you that it works great. Has anyone had some negative stories about them? Will it lower my yield? How often should it be on? am new to this and want to do it the correct way. This seems like the surefire way to destroy the odor of skunk.

Good thread.

My neon transformer is supposed to arrive today! Just wondering if you did any experiemntation to see what effect the size of the 'screen' made in terms of ozone production. being an engineer I need to know:

-what difference the separation distance between electrodes makes?
-what is the difference between using glass and lexan as the dielectric?
-what is the idea number of square inches is the electrodes, what happens if they are smaller or larger?
-what is the effect of using a flat electrode vs a corrigates one of sorts?
-what is the ideal % open space of the electrodes?

I hope to find answers to these questions over the next few days! How cool is it to get bakes and watch the think mae ozone in the dark?

Krusty,

I believe the reason for using glass over polycarbonate (lexan) is because of the densitys of the molectular structure. Lexan (polycarbonite resi made by ge), is a resin with a tight chemical chain structure thus making it a harder pass through. Glass has a very simple structure allowing a very good pass through. You could use polycarbonate, but you would have to sacrifice thickness meaning a probability of mealtdown and fire.

Us as well. Hope you're using it outside the growroom. Most users put it on an electronic timer, (that will give 1 min. ON times,)
The ideal timing is when you can't smell weed and you can't smell ozone.
Nice construction btw.

jamesgang,

I used lexan on the one I built last night and did not have any heat problems. infact it was cool to the touch. I only ran it for a short period as I used nylon screws to hold the screen down. Of course I did not tap the lexan for the screws but just bolted right through and the voltage found its way in the extra space and arced. So today I will seal the holes so there is no short there.

PVC I saw has a breakdown at 25kV+ @ 3mm or 1/8". I used 1/8 inch and it worked fine until it found the short circuit. I would expect lexan to have similar properties but will verify. Some peoples comments were that these things heat up. I cannot see it, but that does not mean it doesn't happen! I also heard glass will break down in a year.

anyways I just went to the shop to cut some more prototype material and will report back once I build it up. It is cooold outside and I need to warm up!
