![]() | There's a lot of information in this thread, but unfortunately it's all confused me, lol. I'm on a very tight budget, and want to know which is the cheapest method of eliminating odour? It's vital (in my case) that the odour cannot be detected. I'll only be growing one California Orange Bud plant in my tiny shed (has no windows or vents).

Up until a few weeks ago I cut up pieces of carbon pre filter for a drum type air purifier. I would then stuff them in to the ducted light ports. That way both the temp is controlled and the odor is knocked down. But not enough. I generally grow 4 females from purchased genetics. I seed 10 usually and then when sexed (after about 3 -4 weeks I can spot the preflowers) get rid of the males. Then the females go from the bubblers to the drip system. Two dual spectrum hoods with 400W hps/mh in each hood for a total of 1600 watts. Universal garden with 6 sites but as noted before I only grow out 4 plants. My room is 5 ft wide, 10 feet long with an eight foot cieling. When growing a sativa the method I have been using is fine for 4 plants but when I grow out an indica of any kind it has just been too much smell for my liking. I have caught a wiff many times walking around under the eves of my dwelling. So that lead me to my most recent purchase. A can filter. The can filter has been nothing short of a miracle for me. Pricey YES, but the money paid out translates to a boat load of peace of mind. The model is a "CAN 66" with a 450 cfm inline fan pulling the air from the room through it. The air then exits freely in the room creating a nice breeze throughout. It has been a welcome addition. Later all. db

i use a chimney for the budbox..... its out very quick & quiet. Starting to stink now, & I'm considering a carbon filter. No smell anywhere except in the attic... & ... up there on the roof I have a cupboard elsewhere, for mums & babies, which is more sensitive for smells. I have a couple of big candles in jars with essential oils in there, in the bathroom where the air goes out usually, and one in the living area. Good & positive odour. Also, an electric one which is s0-So..... always a concern though.... i have a citrus spray ready, near the door too. i just remembered, i have an ioniser in the budbox.... Some varieties stink lots more than others.. I grew one strain once, called Durga Mata (means mother goddess), South Indian I think. The smell was u n f * & * $ £ g--- believeable. Totally unmanageable! Nice draw though... The Kat ![]() Last edited by BaadPuTthyKat; 04-11-2005 at 04:01 PM.. Reason: it smells

it sounds gross but u wanna know something? i'm planning a grow at my homeboy's house and while i'm considering buying a hepa/deionizer/airscrubber that is all fancy smancy (no ozone) and or at least building a carbonfilter setup i can take in to consideration that his dog has crapped and pissed all over the house on the carpet and the house pretty much has that dog crap stank to it,, u try and get it out but it'll always be there. obviously the exception to that smell will be the sweet sweet and very pungent herb garden in the other room... goood boy ,,take a crap on the carpet.. better for guests to smell crap then ur hidden garden of paradise..

I have switched over to a small O3 generator and just installed a homemade carbon filter onto my 6" Fantech fan. ![]() Here is a few pics of it for you all... seems to be working great! I used a bit of chicken wire and wrapped it around a 6" end cap and taped into place. The other end i stuffed into a 8-6 reducer and the wrapped it in Bulk Carbon Filter Media. I then stuffed it onto the 8" part of the reducer and into a 8" end cap screwed into the 6" on the other side.. taped it all into place with some duct tape, and there ya go.. a $200 can filter for around $40. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | let me know how that works out for ya, stoney. i currently use nothing, and my whole house pretty much reeks. i like the smell, mind you, but summer's almost here, and i want to entertain (bbq's and such). i can't have anyone over until i get a handle on the odor........ not to mention the paranoia factor. peace- arnold layne

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've got the home made activated carbon can filter inside my cabinet, filtering air before it actually gets to the fan on the outside of the cab... Then on the other end, another piece of carbon filter before the air finally exits into the basement. Right next to the main out vent, two department store carbon filter fans (the kind you plug into the wall). And an ozone generator running 3 feet from the cabinet. If the door from the basement to the house isn't closed, the whole house says "Raid me, LEO, there's MJ growing here!... COME ON, I KNOW YOU WANT TO..." And forget about inviting people into the basement. Used to have a box of silicone kitty litter which worked great until it started reducing air flow, which is when i replaced it with filter material.

![]() | I know this sounds ultra simple, but it is effective. A 4" vent duct going staight out the top of the roof, clearing the peak by a couple feet. The key is have the fan near the top sucking rather than the bottom in the room pushing, when it was at the bottom pushing, the house reaked because of small leaks in the ducting at various points

![]() | Great thread, great info! I'm in the veg stage of my first grow and I plan on buying a holmes air filtering device of some kind. I may supplement this with an absorbing gel and baking soda, and hopefully that will eliminate the smell completely. I'm only growing one plant at the moment so hopefully the odor won't be to overpowering to begin with (It's bagseed, no idea about the breed). Thanks again for the info!
