Hello again, Well I've searched these forums, I've search google. I've searched long and hard and I've still to come up with a place where I can buy activated carbon (charcoal) in Canada (preferably BC). I went to a petcetra and they were really expensive wanting 20.99 CDN for 14 OZ. I will probally need 2-3 28 oz boxes of it according the the specs I got for the filter I made. Anyone know where I can obtain this reasonably? The only place I found sells it in 10lb bags for 79.99.... That is a SCHMIDTLOAD of carbon!!!

![]() ![]() | I've seen bags in my grocery store in the garden section. I don't know what sort of quality it was, but it said activated carbon and it said it was made of coconut husks (supposedly the good stuff). A nursery perhaps?

![]() | Have you checked out charcoal pre cleaners for HPEA air cleaners? There sheets of activated charcoal that you wrap around your HEPA to suck up oder and lager particals befor they get to the main filter. They work great on my air filters and there real cheap and would be easy to work with as well.

![]() | Well, I looked online and the savings isn't that great compared to the local hydo stores... By the time I get it here, the shipping will have brought the price up to the same amount so there is no savings. I guess $5.58 lb isn't bad... And it is the same stuff they use in the can-filters etc... So I'm sure it's good quality! Thanks for the replies, if ya need more info or what not just reply or pm me and I will try my best to help!

Typically, it is a medically oriented product and can be found in just about any store that has home health remedies such as cough syrups, tylenol, aspirin etc. Try your local drug chain, it is also in first aid kits and lists with ipecac syrups indicated for poison ingestions not linked to petroleum products. It should not be that expensive, most likely about 4 bucks for 8 oz bottle....just a guess but then again I used to buy it by the case not the bottle in my line of work. This type is fine particles that you can pour like salt. To me this is easier to work with when you make your filter.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Any large chain pet store has activated charcoal. Most home depots, meijers etc have it. A large fish/aquarium store will definitely have it. Look in the fish section. You need activated charcoal for many filters in fish tanks. My question (and I was too embarrassed too post my own thread so please excuse the minor intrusion) HOW DO YOU GET THE ACTIVATED CHARCOAL TO STICK TO THE FILTER? Can you just rub it on (god awful mess) wet down the filter?

The medical style has a screw off top with a pointed dispenser. Take the top off and put your water in there..put the top on and squirt it where ya need it. If you don't have the desire to work the mud.....you can take two separate regular indoor furnace filters and cut the cardboard ends off....sprinkle the charcoal on one the filters.....spray with water bottle so it does not disturb it too much....roll the other piece of filter up like a big joint....take the filter joint and roll the charcoal splattered filter around the first....insert into PVC pipe with holes drilled.....and of course your fan would be attached to the other end of the pipe. Hehehe, don't laugh...works the charm and have got less than 30 bucks including travelin in the set up. PM for details if you need. ![]()

![]() | I just got some delivered. http://www.foustco.com. Do a search for "loose" and loose carbon will be returned. You will be looking for coconut shell carbon (9-2555). It's $7.50 US a LB....but they don't ask any questions and they ship quick. They sell the stuff for refilling air purifiers. Men made the idea of hell to control people, heaven is what ever you liked doing on earth, but freely with out worries Enjoy
