Insurance Claim
permalink

Ok last night my kitchen flooded. The water has gone into the basement where I keep my plants but only into the front room of the cellar. The back room where my grow is is untouched but there is not door or anything between the rooms. Im guessing insurance guys and stuff will be coming round so I need advise, Do I...

a, keep my cab going and hide the plants upstairs as its not illegal to have the equipment.

b, dispose of all the plants and fill the cab full of tools and have a big ass tool shed. or

c, get rid of the plants, take down my cab and rebuild when everything is sortd

Can you move the whole cab to a more secure location in the house?

If you feel that it is too much of a risk ... pull your plants!

If some "people" were coming over to inspect my home (which has happened before) ... I unplug my unit (no air circulation = little or no smell) and pile everything I can around it. Make it appear as though I have not needed into that space in months.

The reason "home-grown" is no longer synonymous with "schwag" is because of the control indoor growers have over the plant environment. Over the last few decades, we have learned what the near-ideal environment is for MJ cultivation. To paraphrase a genious, "We stand on the shoulders of giants".

Cheers CC. I wish I hadnt spent so long makin the cab cos its well and truely rooted to its position. I think I am going to get rid of the plants this morning and keep a mother hidden away. Ive filled the cab with tools but it still well looks like a grow cab.

furrybean,

how big are your plants?

can you move them easily?

If they are small enough you could bring them to a friends house in the middle of the night. I had to move my grow two times because of logistical stuff and I just got huge cardboard moving boxes and put the plants in and drove them safely to their new locations. So if theres somebody you can trust, thats the route that I would take.

Hope ya get it sorted!

It depends on your situation. If you can move your plants to a place that they wouldn't inspect (remember they're not conducting a search... they're checking for damage), then I would do that. If you can't hide the grow space, then put some flowers in there or something.

I'm in a huge city.

We have 24 hr storage places.
You can rent a garage sized storage place, 20 bucks a month.
Rent it for 1 month, move the plants at night.
Plants can survive a day or 2.

Deadmoap is right...put some flowers in your booth. (or strawberries)

If they even notice the booth, tell them some of your ferts got ruined....have em buy you some new ones.

No point in killing your grow over a few bucks if you know when they are coming. Just tell them you have a dog and need to know in advance when they are coming to send 'Fido" to a neighbor. Lie!

Adjust plan to suit.
Results may vary.

hey furrybean-
first, is it so big a mess that ya can't clean it yourself? do you need to involve insurance folk?
i'd do whatever it took not to let insurance adjusters find a grow op, legal or not.
like it or not, if somebody sees the equipment needed to conduct an indoor grow, i'd think that they'd assume mj growing. besides, in light of the stories i've read about fires started from indoor grows, i'd imagine that as insurance guys (the ones who pay out the $$$ when the $h!t hits the fan), they would have a keen interest in that kind of stuff.
i'm not sayin' get rid of it, i'm just sayin' make it not visible. if it must be visible, make it look like something else (get rid of plants and lights, and fill it with tools, like you said, pile boxes and stuff like cc said, etc.).
i wouldn't want anybody i didn't know verrrry well to think that i grew anything indoors, under grow lights, in a basement.
just my
peace and good luck-
arnold layne

I'm squarely with AL on this one. Your insurance guy cannot see your grow. Hopefully the source of the water is known - we wouldn't want them fingering your operation as the source, because that could void your policy.

Personally, I would break everything down and store it in some other place in the house. Adjusters do not search your entire house - they only come to look at the actual damage and do an assessment from there. Is there a place you can stash your plants and gear?

Ya you can bet they will want to do a good search to look for damage. If at all possible get em outta there and take to chances. Better safe than sorry!
