Radioshack has a few things in the way of home automation. I was looking at these simple devices:


Adjustable Sensitivity Vibration Detector
- could possibly be stuck underneath wooden stairs to catch any footsteps. This would be an excellent first measure.


Normally-closed Magnetic Switch
- could be used for door. possibility in my case

I was also looking at some motion sensors. I have a question for all the nice, patient electricians in the crowd: if I were to purchase one of these accessories, would you be willing to walk me through the steps to a successful working finished product?
