Exhaust silencers

Hey guys, i've been perusing these forums for a while now and finally had to post cause i can't find the answer!! =)

I currently have some problems with my ventilation system, it is making too much noise for my liking. It is a very low bass noise. I have a 6inch vortex fan with 6inch ducting. The blower by itself is very quiet, but the exiting air makes so much noise. What can i do to reduce this noise? I heard there are air mufflers? But i can't find any.

Any info will be appreciated!

TIA!

Welcome to GC.com!

Usually duct mufflers are just larger diameter pipes that change the velocity of the exiting air and should quiet it. Can you use a larger diameter pipe near the end of your vent where it exits your grow?

you can also add a few feet of flexible ducting to the end that is curved a little like an s, that will take the noise down a little....also a box with ducting running into both ends, and just a big dead space inside the box with the walls covered in acoustic cieling tile or carpet scraps will quiet it down a bit too....

Mendrel is right. Just getting a 1 foot piece of something a few inches bigger then what you're using would cut down on alot of noise but thats just of the blowing air. If you want you're blower to be more quiet, use a dimmer to set a lower fan speed. Also there are some blowers that are designed to be more "quiet" then others. Make sure whatever you'r mounting the blower to is stiff and doesn't viberate. I made one from a piece 1 foot 10" chimney to the 6" exaust out hole. They sell pieces at home depot that are from like 4 inch to 8. Hope this helps.

Get a small, inexpensive aquarium and put some guppies in it. Set it up where you hear the noise the most, and tada! instant exhaust noise masker/excuse.

Also, you may find that having fish are an excellent source of wonder and amazement and have the same addictive hobby quality that growing your own has.
